Mrs. Lizzie S. Harlow, age 83, widow of Truman O. Harlow '88, died Oct. 4, at her home in Arlington, Mass. Truman died Dec. 2, 1934. Mrs. Harlow was a true assistant to him in his several pastorates as Baptist minister, and she was for many years active in Tremont Temple in Boston, being president of several women's societies. She was loyal to '88, attended reunions, and was well known to the Class. The Harlows are now in the three generation class of Dartmouth graduates, with Harold C. Harlow 'l5 the second generation. He is now with the General Electric Co. at Lynn, Mass. The third generation is HaroldC. Harlow Jr. '42, now a teacher in Pierce College, located near Athens, Greece. Mrs. Harlow also leaves another son, Carl, who is with the Railway Express Cos.
Under the caption "Fishing in Florida," Pattee has put out a pamphlet that displays unusual knowledge of icthyology for an English professor, and also of the geography of the great Florida peninsula. He treats glibly of sheepshead, stingray, fiddlers, pompano and sharks, but says nothing of that greatest of Florida "fish," the alligator. The scribe can qualify for that sport, as he once lassooed a thirty-inch alligator from a catch basin. It was the unusual pet of a lady, and it had left home for reasons known only to the alligator.
The survivors of '88 are now, after sixty years, showing differences in racial characteristics. Those in the northern and cold climates, Avery, Ely, Clark, Keay, Paul and Williams are all preparing to hibernate and show a tendency to revert to the Eskimo type of aborigine. From the "Sunny South" comes a gleeful "Ha! Ha!" from Pattee and Dunlap, as they take on the Seminole type and plan for Christmas strawberries. Naturally there is a little pathology, mostly colds, but one man complains of "Shingles" and specifies where they are attached to his anatomy. There were long, loud, post-election wails from the '88 octet, but a new grandson, Laurence Wheeler Lougee Jr., Dartmouth 1970, helps to offset our personal shock.
