Southeastern Florida
ON APRIL 29, twenty-eight alumni and their wives gathered at the home of R. W. Pierce '25 on Bay Point in Miami. This meeting had the dual purpose of welcoming Andy Gustafson, newly installed head football coach at Miami University, who served under Earl Blaik at Dartmouth, and of reviving and revitalizing the Alumni Association of Southeastern Florida.
To acquaint those present with one another socially, prior to the meeting the Pierces put on a grand lawn party featured by cocktails and a delicious buffet supper. After everyone was in a congenial mood as a result of excellent food and drink the business meeting was called to order by Donald Bunting '34, president. Those present discussed the possibility of bringing the famous Dartmouth crew here for boat races during Orange Bowl week. It was decided the alumni in Southeast Florida, of which there are 77, would be invited to attend the regular monthly luncheon meetings, to be held on the Ist Wednesday of each month at the Seven Seas Restaurant in Miami.
Following this informal discussion, Bunting called on R. L. Burnap '94 to announce the names of those selected by the nominating committee to serve as officers of the association. Bunting, who led the group previously is transferring to Gainesville, where he will join the faculty of the University of Florida. Burnap turned out to be a skilled raconteur and made this assignment highly entertaining. The following officers were elected for 1948: President, R. W. Pierce '25; vice-presidents, Col. Henry Teague '00, George Loehr '20, George Boughton '2B; and secretary, Lincoln Daniels'34 Others present at this first meeting were: A. J. Sporborg '94, R. C. Plumer '12, Wm. H. Locke '12, F. H.
