Football Squad Award
December 1949

At the end of the football season a new "Manners Makyth Man" award will go to that member of the football squad who, by majority vote of his . squadmates, has best conducted himself to the advantage of the College ; and the Team.

Made possible through the generosity of an anonymous alumnus, the award of a cup and $25 for the purchase of books will be presented annually by Coach McLaughry to the squad member (he need not be a member of the team) who best fulfills the following description: A. He will always play HARD, but will also always play FAIR. B. The team and its good standing, as well as its winning, will consistently be his first consideration.

C. Good manners (not mere politeness) will distinguish him, in the sense that William of Wykeham, founder of Winchester College, in England, probably had in mind when he said: "Manners Makyth Man."
