George Munroe's son George B. Munroe of Joliet, 111. was one of the four college men who in December won the Rhodes Scholarships awarded this year in the Great Lakes district. George is at Harvard for P. G. work.

Brig Knight was on hand in Concord for the inauguration of Gov. Adams, but whether or not he is returning to the West Coast as advisor to some of the lumber interests was not given out.

Mention has already been made under "Wah Hoo Wah" of Jay Runkle's award. If you missed it, it was the National Retail Dry Goods Association Gold Medal award emblematic of distinguished service to the retail trade presented on Jan. 13, 1949 at the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York.

Dudley Bernstein has a Florida address now 120 Mason St., Snell Isle, St. Petersburg. Looks as if one more had gone into the retired list, or semi-retired. Bob More's law firm announces a new member, Peter H. Holme Jr., firm's name, Dines Dines & Holme.

Keith Wood sent word from Portugal that with all the import restriction against American goods it will be a long time before he journeys to the States. He nevertheless is keeping well and fat and fit, and sends his best to all interested.

Eddie Sides and his wife had planned on taking in the reunion but had to pass it up for business reasons. He became a grandfather for the fifth time in September. This time it's his son and his wife, who are located in Norfolk, Va.

George Steele was rooming with Eddie Luitwieler for the Class Agents meetings at the Inn in Hanover and reports a most enjoyable instructive and worth while weekend. The mail on January 26 brought a most attractive Christmas card from Mr. & Mrs.Matt Gately in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with the good word that he expects to see us this year.

Walt Nolan is Commandant of the Central Pacific Branch, United States Armed Forces Institute, and while he is doing well in Hawaii he would "just love a breath of the good old Hanover air—once a New Englander always a New Englander."

Al Washburn is back in Bethel, Vt. and says everything's coming along fine. The gang at our weekly luncheons sent messages while he was in the hospital in Boston. Carl Shutnway and Nat Rice have recently become regular in their attendance on Wednesday noons at Patten's.

David Waldron of Burt Lake, Mich, was appointed to the Naval Academy. In October Waldron had written a perfect examination test when he applied for enlistment the Navy's Applicant's Qualification Test, the 2nd perfect score recorded in the country in the past three years. Andy Comstock read of the 100 per cent score and that Waldron was to take his boot training at Great Lakes, so drove out to see him. In an audience with his commanding officer Waldron was brought in. Both were impressed with his appearance and obvious intelligence, so Andy wrote the Secretary of the Navy at Washington and found out that with a Congressional nomination a recruit is eligible for assignment to the Navy's prep school at Bainbridge, Md. Rep. Charles E. Potter of Cheboygan was the man on the job and Andy's protegee is headed to be an admiral.

The New York Dinner on Jan. 26 found Steele, Remsen, Dent, Meleney, Catterall,Towler, Macdonald, Terry and Alden gracing the board John Remsen now has turned over all Fund records to George Steele who has established his office in one corner of the Choate School. John as Ex-Class Agent continues to use his great interest and ability to help George upon the receipt of all calls from the Agent We have to go to print before the Boston dinner on February 9.

Clif and Agatha Clarke in Haverhill "at long last are grandparents. Clifton Jr.'s wife Dot had a little girl on January 29, Sharon Lee Clarke. Yes, we are getting a big kick out of the little lady's arrival."
