It looks like I can't funnel too much news your way this month. The outflow has been greater than the intake for the past few months so the supply on hand is definitely limited.
One recent letter received was from BobFreeman, now at the Univ. of Maine. Bob, much to my surprise, is majoring in Engineering Physics and hopes to graduate in 1950. From there he plans to go on to graduate school majoring in Physics and/or Math. He hasn't much news to offer about other DNAA members except that Frank Gibney is now attending the Univ. of Arizona at Tucson. Another letter rolled in last month from L.Bourke Welch. Since his hitch in the Navy and a post-war tour of China, Bourke has spent most of his time in California. After working for a newspaper in Hollywood and a semester at Los Angeles City College, Welch went up to the Univ. of Calif, at Berkeley where he is at present. He says that he hopes to graduate this June and go to work for a huckster agency on the coast.
Ivey Roy all, currently of St. Marys, 0., recently sent us more news per square inch of paper than we've received in some time. Royall is a member of the sales staff for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Molded and Extruded Sales Division. Never heard of 'extruded sales' myself, but one never knows what these rubber companies will do next. Ivey writes that John T. Conway is mairied and has a son John, and is a student at Columbia Law School. John A. McClain is also married and also has a son. He is attending Purdue Univ. and hopes to go to Veterinary school soon. Jack G. Carlin is also married and ALSO has a son—this is getting monotonous. Jack is working for an insurance company in Los Angeles. Arley E. McCoy has now returned to the Navy and is in the CEC. Mac is now stationed at Newport, R. X. Jacob A.Gleber is employed by Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, Md. as a mechanical engineer Another one of Royall's news items concerns Lincoln D. Stoughton, who, when last heard from, was taking graduate work in Engineering at the Univ. of Rochester.
Some of the Marine Corps contingent is still being heard from on rare occasions. ] Pfeiffer has recently been appointed depot superintendent for the Shell Oil Company in Spartanburg, S. C. Before moving to Spartanburg, Jack worked for Shell in Alexandria, Va According to the latest reports, Pfeiffer is married and the father of one child—gender unknown. Lt. Charles R. Munn Jr. dropped us a short note this month. Chuck is a regular now and is currently attending the army's artillery school at Ft. Bliss, Texas. Around Christmas time he returned from two years' service in Guam and North China. From China to Texas doesn't seem to be much improvement.
Recently, Fred Pfau dropped me one of his infrequent letters. Pfau is still teaching school in Hartford but had just returned from a trip to Washington, D. C. where he spent some
time with Bob Lederer, a former staff pharmacist of the V12 unit. Bob is now a Chief and is attending the Navy's Hospital Administration School at Bethesda, Md. Speaking of schools, George Scala, one of the former staff writers for the DNAA, recently graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, N. Y. We sure would like to hear more from George. Bob (R. S.) Davies is another member attending an upstate New York school. Bob is enrolled at Syracuse studying architecture and hopes to graduate in 1951. A card from FrankWarber informs me that he is enrolled here at the University of Wisconsin but I haven't seen him around as yet. Maybe I should get out of my ivory tower and see what this campus looks like. Dave Hauser is attending the Univ. of Michigan but there is no news as to his major field of interest—academic, that is.
The matrimonial department continues to contribute some news to the column. The engagement of Miss Barbara Miller to CharlesC. Morgan Jr. was recently announced in Washington, D. C. Miss Miller is a graduate of Vassar. The engagement of Miss Adrienne Codella to Dan Birecree was announced in Larchmont, N. Y. shortly after the Christmas holidays. Both are now attending Brockport State Teachers College, with Dan receiving his degree this June. The parents of Miss Helen Spaeth recently announced the engagement of their daughter to Lt. (jg) MariaVanni, USN. Vanni is at present attached to the USS Massey in the Atlantic fleet. Vows were exchanged in mid-December by Doris Tutino and Eugene Miller in Brooklyn. Gene is now teaching at Wharton School, Univ. of Penn. Fred Pfau sends the very belated news that one of his many former roommates, EdDavidson, was married to Miss Ruth Garretson in early October at New Brunswick, N. J. The only other news that Pfau can offer is that they are living in Alexandria, Va. and that Ed is probably working in the field of geology.
Congratulations of a different sort are in order for Hank (Seaman) Beaman, who is still' here at the Univ. of Wisconsin. Hank recently passed his master's examinations in the department of mathematics. He'll be around for a couple years longer working for that elusive Ph.D.
That's all there is, there ain't no more. A penny postcard from you will do wonders torevive this column.
