We report, with deep regret, that Don Norton passed away May 31 at the Mary Fletchei Hospital at Burlington, Vt. Don was one of the outstanding men of our class and we must all sincerely regret that he was called so early.

During the past summer it was announced that Julia Stillman, daughter of the "Hunk"Stillmans', was married to the son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Spaulding of Winchester.

Miss Patricia Nourse, daughter o£ Mr. andMrs. Laurence G. Nourse, was married to Joel Keyes, Vice-consul, U. S. Embassy, Bangkok, Thailand, Siam. Miss Nourse was graduated from the University of New Hampshire. Following a training course at the Department of State Institute in Washington, D. C., she was assigned to the embassy in Bangkok, where she is on the staff of the administrative section. Mr. Keyes was graduated from Clemson College, Clemson, S. C„ and was a first lieutenant in the USAF.

Mr. and Mrs. Stan Kingsbury announced the engagement of their daughter Barbara to Mr. Roy N. Leidner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Leidner of Newton Highlands. Miss Kingsbury was graduated from the Emma Willard School and received a B.S. degree from Skidmore College in June. Mr. Leidner is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, class of 1949, where he was a member of Pi Tau Sigma and Lambda Chi Alpha. A fall wedding is planned.

The Mott Browns are in the headlines again and we congratulate Mott and Francis in that they have done a "double" job this summer. Both Emilie Kay and Barbara Esther were married this summer: Emilie Kay on August 6 to William Pierce Smith of Canajoharie, N. Y. William was graduated from Yale in 1947 where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and was a member of St. Elmo and Berzelius. During World War II he served in Europe as a captain in the USAF, and is now attending the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. After a wedding trip to Canada, they will live in Fort Lee, N. J. Barbara Esther was married at a late afternoon candlelight service in First Congregational Church in Columbus, Ohio, Saturday, April 22, to Carl H. Holekamp Jr. Carl is an alumnus of Dartmouth College, Class of '42, and is a member of Gamma Delta Chi Fraternity. He is president of the St. Louis Dartmouth Club. During the war he served four years in the Navy and held the rank of lieutenant.

While talking about young ladies, we must not forget to mention Marcia, daughter of EvRobie, of Darien, Conn., who is creating quite a sensation in Monologues for Every Occasion. Marcia has had very excellent write-ups from many newspapers and societies. Apparently she is a "chip off the old block."

Congratulations to Bob Paine who recently was named president of Major Appliance Corporation, Back Bay, Boston.

Gene Toxvler has done a lot of traveling this summer as per letter Gene wrote to Johnny Wheelock. Following are some notes from Gene's letter:

"On April 10, the New York Seventeen gang turned out for the Trustees' Reception at the Dartmouth Club, with President Dickey, Beardsley Ruml and Nelson Rockefeller in the receiving line. We adjourned from this cocktail hour to the annual alumni banquet at Hotel Commodore. At our tables sat Bob Adams; Walter J. {Bobby)Burns, who returned after illness and several years absence; Donald Brooks; Ralph Carpenter down from Middletown; Bill Birttuell up from Asbury's surf; Summy Emerson all the way up from Wall St.; Fred Leighton from his Mexico-of-New York; Art Stout—Stanfordville realtor; Shoe Tycoon Shea;Key Reycroft from his Bridgeport caster plant; Len Reade with, more new stories; little BobbyScott proud as punch over his new granddaughter; and yours truly. Karl Koeniger had to miss the party to go to California and see his two new grandsons, and for the first (and we hope the last) time in many years, our holder did not arrive. Party wasn't quite right without him. However the 13 present were a big enough percent of our official possible list to make us runner-up for the attendance cup for the first time in New York's history. Earley's big 1918 "New York" contingent took the cup as usual. Nose Young, Jim Rubel, AlShields, Lee Hill, Arch Gile and Hew Sturgess etc. please note and come next year!

"Spique Maclntyre was in New York early in May and I had a good visit with him. He looks better than in many years, if possible, and more recently Don Brooks tells me Spique joined the class officer gang at Hanover for the May meetings. He is working on the scholarship phase of the D. Development Commission.

"I ran up to Boston for a couple of hours to see Hank London in his advertising agency at the Statler Building and found Hank as interesting and industrious as of old. He looks fine. Sorry I did not have time to look up a lot of the Boston gang, but had to run right back. to the Madison Ave. publishing grindstone.

"Also, late in April Elliott Mudgetl and I got together for lunch at the Club and Mudge gave me a very interesting picture of his Bryan-Elliot silk-screen and advertising display business which keeps on growing bigger and bigger over the years with plenty of big-name brands on his customer list. He is still happily anchored at Rockville Center with its golf and salt water shorts.

"After driving a car a few hundred miles in Nebraska and checking conditions with a lot of merchants in the tall. corn country, I flew to Des Moines and found myself on a Sunday evening with Dr. Lee and Mrs. Hill, at the home of their close friends Mr. & Mrs. Art Keyes '24. We had a good Dartmouth powwow. Lee is a leading pediatrician. He looks 15 years older and three pounds healthier than when he was in college, but not a bit different than when he and I had a session in Des Moines in 1938. The younger daughter is graduating this June from Vassar the same week my Tom is graduating from Dartmouth. Lee promised to try to look up some of the New York gang while there a day or so, and hopes to get to Hanover the following week for a round of golf and a look at the College after his daughter sails to Europe.

"Had lunch with Don Brooks last-week and he and Helen are full of pep. His son Bill is doing a great job broadcasting sports events for D.B.S. in his junior year and is a member of Green Key. Betty married George Ballin of Princeton in January, a perfectly swell gent."

Perc Streeter gives the following dope on Sam MacKillop. "I wonder if you have heard that Sam MacKillop was runner-up in the recent New England tournament. Sam was leading the first day with a 75 and although he had a 74 the second day, he had to compete with a 70, which was just too much. I think his score, however, (149) deserves congratulations, and I am sure his classmates will be glad to know that he is still on the beam." It is also reported that Sam recently won the Eastern Mass., championship at the Wellesley Country Club. Some of you 1917 golfers had better sharpen up your game a bit.

During the summer many of the boys visited Hanover and to them we offer our congratulations. For instance, Phil Evans, the Mell Palins, the Don Brooks, Ev Robie, the Gil Swetts,Stocky Stockwell, the Ed McGowan's, the EdEarles, the Sam MacKillops, Van Montgomery,Carl Stillmans and Spique Maclntyre.

The Alumni Fund was a huge success and Stocky and his committee deserve a great word of praise from all the members of the class. Although we did not win the Green Derby, an exceptionally 6ne job was accomplished.

Any news of your summer vacations will be gratefully received for the class notes.
