Members of our association were stunned recently by the sudden and untimely death of Gerald C. Wood '24. Jerry was killed instantly on September 19 when his car was struck head-on by a semi-trailer which skidded out of control. The tragic accident also took the lives of his wife, Virginia, and his mother, Mrs. Elsre Wood. Jerry is survived by two sons, Tommy and Nicki.
"Cool Colorado" lived up to its slogan and then some the evening of September 9 when the Dartmouth guys and gals gathered on Genessee Mountain for the annual outing. The chilly weather failed to dampen the spirit of this popular event, especially as the insides were warmed by good food and drink and the front-sides by a roaring fire. Many were seen to turn their backs to the fire frequently, which was not done in every instance to avoid the smoke.
Members of the steering committee for the Dartmouth West of the Mississippi Conference to be held in Denver November 10-11 met at the home of John Cunningham '18 on September 19 to discuss plans for this event. At this meeting the following committee assignments were made: Entertainment—HartGilchrist '31, Lee Brekke '40, Eddie Toothaker '32, Orm Birkland '43, and Phil Johnson '49; Transportation—Don Casey '48 and RickRickenbaugh '2B; Housing—Ken Perry '44 and Gilbert McDowell '46; Registration—BobWilliamson '34. Don McKinlay '37, who is in charge of the conference program, explained that the purpose of the conference was in general to explore the ways in which alumni associations can better serve the College in such fields as admissions, development and vocational guidance.
Our regular monthly luncheons, discontinued during the summer, were resumed in October and are held the last Friday of each month at the Albany Hotel.
