In glancing over the recent book reviews, the pleasing discovery was made that the author of The Three Peabody Sisters ofSalem, Mrs. Louise Hall Tharp, was none other than Louise Hall, daughter of NewtonM. Hall '88. Mrs. Tharp has delved into the lives of these three famous women, one of whom married the pioneer educator Horace Mann, another Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Elizabeth, the third of the trio, never married but carved out fame by her own originality. Mrs. Tharp has recreated these women and their background and set thern before this generation after a painstaking study.
Newton Hall was one of our outstanding men, naturally gifted in College and in after life as an eminent Congregational Minister, the last of his pastorates being at Springfield, Mass. His all too early death came in 1926. Mrs. Tharp has a literary inheritance from her New England parentage which she has developed by her own ambition and ability. She makes her home in Darien, Conn., with her husband and two sons. The survivors of her father's college class extend to her their congratulations upon the success of her book.
