"Don't forget to hold yourself down for March!" is the mandate from our hardworking, conscientious Editor Charlie Widmayer, who added, "Saturday and Sunday nights were around 20 below, and you ought to be glad that you are basking in the sun down there."—We are.
To give Charlie added space for his Big Issue of the Year, we'll make this short.
"PROFESSOR, 62, MARRIES DP, 25, HE BEFRIENDED" runs Chicago Tribune front page head under Carlinville, Ill., Jan. 19 (AP) dateline, "A 62-year-old history professor and a 25-year-old Ukrainian student he helped to bring to America, were married tonight. Dr. Warren Choate Shaw, Blackburn college professor, and Nonna Dolodarenko were wed in the First Methodist church parsonage here. The couple met in 1948 when Dr. Shaw visited a DP camp at Fuessen, Germany, while touring Europe." Congratulations, Ski.
John Vander Pyl visited Hanover in early Dec Ollie Johnson's new address is Wyndacre Farm, Box G, Sagamore, Mass. Ed Shattuck follows his doctor's orders, takes life easy, putters in his work shop forenoons, rests every afternoon, plans to spend 5 months at his Lake Winnepesaukee camp this coming summer.
The Tommy Leonards visited the JackRyans in Milwaukee in early Jan Jack is recovering from an operation .... he and Red Sox Joe McCarthy have been close friends for 40 years .... which will be news of interest to W. Norton.
At Christmastime we wrote to Mrs. Johnny Hobbs to inquire how young John was getting ting along.... as we haven't had any word since his dad's death during the War received a fine letter from Erminie which will be given to you in next issue of TennerTopics.... when and if you get some extra news to us Hope that you fellows use the Directory to write some letters.
Shing Sherwin is back at work in an easy way for Wellesley Press with no opportunity for violent physical exertion.... Herb andDaisy Wolff plan to winter-vacation in Florida and Jamaica .... George Allen is meeting with success in his visits to the famous Hitchcock Clinic at Hanover to rebuild his health permanently.... Fletch Rogers' address is Route 2, Box 2555, Elk Grove, Calif For several years Charlie Gibson has been fulltime counselor for the Vermont Rehabilitation Service of the State Department of Education, covering the counties of Caledonia, Orange and Washington Harold Benjamin spent some time in St. Petersburg this winter.
The entire Class will rejoice in the successful convalescing of Clarke Tobin from a very serious chest operation in December Clarke really had a rough session and considerable time will be required for his complete recovery .... but that famous spirit which he has kept throughout the years is doing a grand job in the emergency we all want that lad in Hanover for the 40th on June 16, 17, 18.
Ralph Noyes is Assistant Division Engineer for the State with headquarters in Littleton, his lifetime home. He has about 300 miles of road under his supervision .... Bill Brown is wintering in Fort Lauderdale "Will be seeing you in Hanover next June," pens Brown Cooper who is an active Dartmouth enthusiast Russ Meredith and Dick Boerker are playing key roles in interviewing the candidates for admission to Dartmouth in their territories .... hope that they can take a few athletes from strong competition Mac Stanton saw Ed Kenway at his farm in Framingham recently, said Ed lost his wife about a year ago .... Heinie Reed is getting established in their new home in Lexington Bert Kent, Hercules Powder Bigwig, really is active in Dartmouth affairs at Holyoke, for which he deserves great credit.... Mac Kendall, Eminent Railroader, plans to retire in 1953 .... Roge Pierce and Vic Willis, close friends for nearly 50 years, plan to attend Reunion together The Class was greatly shocked at the deaths of Fletch Burton, Howard Fogg and Jack Dingle, as is evidenced by the continuing references and tributes to them.
Earle Pierce has been doing a Whale of a Fine Tob as Fletch's successor and he has to watch his own step, too you fellows can make his work easier by cooperating as much as possible. .
Andy Scarlett is swinging into his Alumni Fund responsibilities for 1950 and really needs all of the help which you can give to him. In addition to having the delightful burden that goes with a 14½ lb. granddaughter at 3 months, Andy has a rugged schedule in Chemistry, and a popular one, too in one course he lectures to two sections of 150 men each, and frequently has to remain for an extra 1 hours to answer their questions .... and incidentally, my friends, that is quite some testimonial that he can hold the attention of a class for that length of time.
As for your Secretary, he and Marion expect to remain in Clearwater until around April 1..... we have been pushing you a bit hard for return of the Questionnaires but you could readily understand their value if you could see a few, or if you had this job to perform .... please keep them coming .... and add enough news for another edition of Tenner Topics which must be over and above what is required for these columns.
