Harry Douty was in town for a few days in January on a business trip and had fully intended to bring his good wife Helen along for a little spree. Bags were all packed, Harry was waiting at Grand Central for Helen to arrive, when suddenly he was paged to the telephone and informed that his youngster had developed chicken pox so —Harry came on alone. We have hopes of getting a rain check in a month or so for he is due out here again in the spring.
The engagement of Miss Dorothy Horniss of West Hartford to Jerry Kelso was announced December 17. Jerry is now at Harvard doing some graduate work. He is a member of the history department at M.I.T.
Ed Anderberg's marriage to Erna Bea Poulson took place in Washington, D. C. We announced their engagement in a previous issue. Ed, as you may recall, has recently returned from China—Nanking to be exact.
Recent visitors to Hanover included DaveChamberlain, Bob Thomas and his wife, the Fritz Cluthe family and the Oscar Israels. Unfortunately, the Hanover snow hadn't as yet arrived, so their skis did little more than take up space between home and Hanover.
Art Moffatt is back around the Hanover area again, and is head of an unusual and interesting organization. Art is the Director of Hudson Bay Trips. He takes about 15 people each summer on a two-month 700 mile canoe trip through the wilderness of northern Canada—from the western edge of Ontario northeast along the Albany river to James Bay. Art is thoroughly familiar with the area, having been asked by the Canadian government in 1948 for detailed information about rapids and portages on the Albany River. Prior to his newest venture, Art had been an instructor of English at the University of Utah. In a letter to me Art gave a very interesting description of the trip he and his wife Carol made down the Albany in 1948. It now happens that Carol is the first white woman to have paddled from Sioux Lookout to Hudson Bay via the Albany River. According to Art, she enjoyed the trip thoroughly, but did get a little tired of seeing nothing but Ojibway Indians.
Have some interesting letters I want to keep until next time, as this month we're purposely cutting things short as the MAGAZINE has some plans for listing the Alumni Fund contributors right about here. See you in April.
