The annual dinner of the St. Louis Dartmouth Club was held at the Congress Hotel on January 25, when the Club and their guests were privileged to hear President Dickey as the speaker. It is felt that those who had not previously met President Dickey acquired a new friend, and we know that President Dickey, in turn, made many friends for himself and for the College. We sincerely hope that every other alumni group will get to hear John Dickey, and we hope that his visit to St. Louis will inaugurate a yearly custom. We liked him.
The Dinner Committee, Howie Mullin '27 (chairman), Frank Cornwell '35 (publicity), and Doc Spitz '34, had everything under control and made the presiding job easy for Club prexy Jack Merrill '30. Presence of many wives and/or girl friends added color and warmth to the dinner, and the informal milling about before and after the turkey was served gave everyone an opportunity (very easy, we might say) to arrive at first name terms with John Dickey. Buster May '36 and, indirectly, NormProbstein '43, helped the Committee with arrangements at the Congress, and Chairman Howie Mullin came up with a famous job at introducing our distinguished speaker. All in all, we feel the dinner was a great success. Dartmouths present were: Edwin J. Adams '43, James G. Alfring '35, James C. Jones III '38, William E. Rench '34, Boyd Rogers '35, Albert W. Gruer Jr. '45, Edward R. Samuels '45, James M. Mullins '43, Ernest M. Merrill '30, Carl H. Holekamp Jr. '42, Alexander M. Jones '34, Howard J. Mullin '27, Wm. H. Stimson '36, George L. Woelfel '27, Robert S. Turner '33, Richard F. Meyer '33, Charles F. Hathaway '38, Leigh C. Turner '04, Dr. Milton A. Spitz '34, Harry L. "Pat" Broh '41, Morton D. "Buster" May '36, Ernest M. Curtis, F. Richard Meyers '35, Prof. Arthur S. Gilson '19, David C. Biggs '42, Martin M. Kerwin '33, Russell F. Fette '39, Charles Edison '43, Franklin J. Cornwell '35, Pierre Grace '33, Edward Grace '38, George Zeiss '37 (from Indianapolis), Thomas B. Curtis '32, Ernie D. Grinnell Jr. '42, Harry LaTourette '44, and Norman Scott '35.
Dave Biggs '42, vice president of our St. Louis Club, is celebrating the arrival on January 27 of David C. Biggs III, who just missed the 1951 Annual Dinner.
Dr. Earl Poe '42 will become on February 19 Captain Earl Poe, U. S. Army, and will report on that date at Ft. Leonard Wood. PatBroh '41 will go back into service at about the same time, and the St. Louis Club thus will lose two very popular active members we hope very temporarily.
Myron Witham '04, a classmate of LeighTurner, was in St. Louis January 27 and visited briefly with Mr. and Mrs. Turner.
Congressman Tom Curtis '32 was in St. Louis for the annual dinner and reports his initiation into the House, at Washington, as now complete. Tom looked fine and doesn't sound at all like a Congressman, as yet.
Plans for the Dartmouth Glee Club concert, April 6, are progressing nicely, and we hope to duplicate the party of two years ago when last the Glee Club entertained us. Russ Fette '39 is Committee Chairman, with JimmyJones III '38, Carl Holecamp '42 and HarryDeckert '35 as members-at-large, and the entire Club Membership as members-at-call.
