With the coming of Spring there is plenty of activity out at the track. Rog Wilde, our ailAmerican jockey, is rapidly bringing the nag along into top condition for the stretch sprint. The plan of course is to have another victory ribbon pinned to the '21 saddle come June, and make it our fourth straight Green Derby. The Class will gather in Hanover in June to celebrate our 30th Reunion. At the 25th, we set a new record with our Class Memorial Gift of $26,401. Since that occasion, only five years ago, every class since has exceeded our total with 1923 and 1925 contributing the amazing totals of $107,467 and $112,281 respectively. More power to them. Their records will be exceeded, probably in the near future and at a time when the funds have never been needed more by the College. What could be more appropriate than for our Grand and Glorious Class to return to Hanover for our 30th Reunion as a fourth consecutive Green Derby winner and with a new record? Early returns are encouraging and apparently more and more of the Class are adopting the plan of sending along something to the Fund at regular intervals, not waiting until the last minute when it is always difficult to write the check for as much as you'd like to give. The emphasis again is on participation ... some thing from every Classmate.. .. That's what has won us Green Derbies in the past. It will do it again this year. And, here is a brand new wrinkle. One of our most loyal Classmates, who modestly prefers to remain anonymous, has lined up 20 other guys who are really ready to lay it on the line to make this our banner year. This group has issued a challenge to the rest of the Class. They offer to match the total of all our increase this year over 1950. That means if we increase our total by $2,500. the Patriotic Twenty, will cough up $125. extra, above their last year's gift to match our §2,500 increase. The challenge has been accepted by Rog for the Class, so let's make them pay plenty. Our experience in other years shows that if we can take the lead we can hold it to the wire. We can come back in June, riding another winner and with a new Derby record for Rog. Let's do it.
Another loyal member of the Class has left us for "that undiscovered country from whose bourn no Traveler returns." James G. Jones died in Kittanning, Penna. on January 8. Jim started with us, but had to interrupt his course, graduating officially with the Class of '22. At the time of his death he owned the Kaiser-Frazer agency in Kittanning. Jim's wife died several years ago. The Class extends sincere sympathy to his daughters, Jacqueline and Ruthanne, and to his brother, Floy C. Jones Jr. '26.
At long last we now draw to a close the five-year attempt to complete Project Class Questionnaires, which began prior to our 25 th Reunion . .. remember? Here are the Classmates from whom no questionnaires have yet been received. Each one of you will have to really get on your horse and send one in if the data is to be included in the book. The records are an invaluable source of information to the College as well as the Class, so please DO IT NOW. Just a postcard to Jack Hurd in Han- over or the Secretary will get you a blank by return mail.
