The annual dinner of the Dartmouth Club of Tucson took place in some splendor on March 29 at the Old Pueblo Club, where Art Steinbrecher '20, hit the fifty-cent jackpot in a moment of pre-prandial accomplishment and promptly bought all Dartmouth's and their wives a round of drinks to celebrate.
After a round of dinner conversation, PrexyJohn Harlow '28 called on Charles Milham '06 to discuss Hanover and things Dartmouth. A lively give and take on such subjects as "What is the meaning of a higher academic standard?" and "Is Dartmouth essentially a regional college?" followed. In spite of the rather academic tone of the questions as they seem when they get down on paper, the discussion was brisk, not to say heated at moments, with Bob Fish '18, and George Ferguson '21 carrying a good share of the play.
After a variety of false starts and matters of the right-plug-in-the-wrong-place, JackFeth '34 unraveled the workings of a sound projector (rented) and wound up with a color and sound showing of Dartmouth Outdoors that brought appreciative gulps when autumn colors wove and flashed on the screen, and remarks of, "The D.O.C. was never like that when I was in it," from some of the exchubbers present, as Ross McKenney demonstrated casting, white-water canoeing, and techniques of digging a forest-fire trench. Harold Rosenberg '26 snatched onto the film for showing at one of the local high schools the following day.
At the conclusion of the movies, Bob Fish moved that the Tucson Club's officers be declared reelected for another term. The motion was carried, putting John Harlow in the chair for another year, and leaving Jack Feth as secretary-treasurer (with no treasury).
Present for the dinner were: Mr. and Mrs. B. F. West '00; Mr. and Mrs. John Harlow '28; Richard Murray '45; Dan Cushing '02; Robert Wallace '06 and his nurse, Mrs. GilesKenneth Thompson '46, and Mr. and Mrs'. Charles Milham '06. Additional guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Steinbrecher '20, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rosenberg '26, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Hale '31, Rev. and Mrs. George Ferguson '21, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fish '18, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Merrill '26, and Dr.' and Mrs. John H. Feth '34.
