Reunion time is all but here. Latest report from the committee states that 119 will definitely attend festivities in Hanover June 22, 23 and 24. Seventy-two classmates will be present, and 36 of them will bring their wives; 11 friends, sex not stated, will make the figures add. Eighty-four have replied to reunion invitations as "uncertain" and 107 cannot attend. We're assured of a crowd, so come on.
The Greater Boston Dartmouth '47 Alumni Committee planned a smorgasborg dinner May 4 at Ola's Restaurant in Boston. Elmer R. Townsend was to have given a short illustrated lecture on antique automobiles, and highballs, although limited, were on the committee.
Recent visitors at the Hanover Inn include Norm Fink, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weber over the weekend of April 22. Visiting at other times were Jim Rudolph, back, from studies in Paris, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wagner of Pittsburgh.
Class Agent Ed Scully and assistant agents have our Alumni Fund effort humming, although, as in past years, we will expect our enthusiasm to catch us during these last few weeks with results we had not previously hoped to attain. Now's the time to send in pledges and checks.
After a few months in sunny California, Ed Scully is "back east" in Pittsfield, Mass., where he assumes the managership of the State Theatre. Previous manager was Jack Havens, an old timer to theater business too.
Fred Ruoff, Assistant Field Director, American Red Cross, is leaving for European Command. Fred was formerly teaching assistant in English at Rutgers University in 1948, and later, education officer at the Marine Corps Institute during 1949 where he taught college English. He is married to the former Jean Lois Miller.
Prompted by an out-of-date report in the April issue of the Dartmouth ALUMNI MAGAZINE, Bill Huntsman reports that he is now at Fort Monmouth, N. J., and assigned to the Signal Corps Electrical Laboratory. Bill was inducted into the Army September, 1950, and took basic training at Fort Dix, N. J. He graduated from Electrical Engineering School of Cornell University in June, 1949, with the degree of E. E., and upon graduating was employed by the Otis Elevator Co. for one year's training in Bronx, N. Y., Harrison, N. J., NYC, and Buffalo, N. Y., before being assigned to the Buffalo branch.
Sandy Gross writes of a happy change from the hustle of NYC to the quieter life of Ponca, Okla. Sandy left his job with American Cigarette and Cigar, Inc. for a quieter life in the advertising department of the Ponca CityNews. The Gross' have a six-month old daughter, name unmentioned, who is quite traveled for a lady of her age.
News of engagements and marriages continues to sift in with the help of clipping services. Dave Stahl, a senior at Tufts College, where he is following his father's profession of dentistry, recently became engaged to Barbara Jaffee, a junior at Wellesley College.
Dick Shribman is recently engaged to Miss Norma Isobel Marks of Westmount, Quebec, Canada, and a senior at McGill University. Dick recently completed a comprehensive insurance course at the home office school of the Travelers Insurance Companies in Hartford, Conn. Dick is associated in the insurance business in the vicinity of Salem, Mass., with his father.
Dick Menin and Miss Lucille Rita Moss have announced their engagement and plan an autumn wedding in New Rochelle, N. Y. Dick is with Benton and Bowles of NYC, and his fiancee is a recent graduate of Syracuse University.
Among those married this past month are the former Miss Jeanne Ramona Smith and Jack Wagner. Present in Syracuse, N. Y., as an usher at the wedding was Jim Holway. The Wagners planned a wedding trip to New England and included a few days at the Hanover Inn. Both Jack and Jim Holway are in Pittsburgh, Jim with Westinghouse Electric Corp., and Jack with Duquesne Light Co.
Bob Frank, L.L.8., University of Michigan, and at present associate in the New York law firm of Wolf, Haldenstein, Adler, and Freeman, was married April 6 to the former Miss Patricia Eleanor Nover in New Rochelle, N. Y. Present at the ceremony was Dick Menin whose engagement is previously announced in this column.
Jim O'Neill, a member of the class of 1951 at Harvard Law School, was married April 1 to the former Miss Stella Ann Glowacz. The couple planned a trip to New York City.
The former Miss Beverley Benensen was married during March to Al Gasner. Al is an engineer with Lindy Heaters, Inc., and his wife is an alumna of Connecticut College for Women. Other weddings include that of BobKeane, engineering for United Engineers and Construction Company of Philadelphia, and Barbara Darling; and the planned wedding coming this June of Sally M. Rubin and DickSmall. Sally is a senior at George Washington University, and Dick will graduate from Jefferson Medical College this June.
Bud Blaisdell is, back in the Marine Corps, this time as a ist Lt. Before reentering the service, Bud was a detailer with American Bridge Co. and lived with his wife and two sons, Louis F. Jr. and John P., in East Meadow, N. Y.
Chuck Creedon is a salesman with the Prudential Insurance Co. in Detroit. Chuck was married last November to the former Miss Jean MacKay in Stoneham, Mass. and was the owner of Caldwell Marine Co., hydraulic Engineers.
Dick Egdahl is an interne at University of Minnesota Hospitals, Minneapolis, after graduating last June Phi Beta Kappa with his M.D. from Harvard Medical school.
Dave Hauser is a mechanical engineer with the Detroit Edison Co.; Dick graduated as a mechanical engineer from the University of Michigan last year. Ralph Roth is a Lieutenant in the Navy. He was previously with Mergenthaler Linotype Co. in New York City.
