Unable to be present at either the Harvard game or the night-before get-together, I cannot as yet report on either one. There was a meeting of the class at the University Club on October 24 but reports o£ the day before indicated that the number would be exceedingly small. Aborn, Kimball and Saltmarsh were the only sure ones at that time and a telephone campaign was in progress. Perhaps more later!
As most of you know, on October 24 the College in conjunction with the town of Marshfield, Mass., commemorated the 100th anniversary of the death of Daniel Webster. It was a privilege for Marian and me to be present at these exercises. At noon there was a small luncheon given by the College. It was of interest and a pleasure to find Ed Lathem, the newly appointed assistant to the librarian at Baker Library, as one of those present. Those of you at the last reunion will recall Ed as that very courteous, pleasing and helpful young man assigned to the class by the College as a liaison between the class and the College. After the luncheon the group was escorted to a reserved section at the Winslow Cemetery, where President Dickey presented the town of Marshfield with a New Hampshire granite stone bearing an appropriate inscription in bronze. With this were speeches by Samuel Sears, president of the Massachusetts Bar Association, and Senator Saltonstall, of Massachusetts and, incidentally, Harvard 1914. Charlie Batchelder and Larry Kingman with Clara were other '14er's present. It was a delightful, warm October day, and the exercises were very impressive. If you did not read Ed Lathem's biographical sketch of Daniel Webster in the October issue of the MAGAZINE, by all means do it.
A bit late as news, but Chuck Flanders is now at Brown Palace Hotel in Denver. Mary and Rocky made a spring trip to the Coast, where they visited Chuck, Mary Jr. and her husband and later Bill Washburn in California.
There are three address changes: RaymondH. Foss, E. B. Badger & Sons (Great Britain), 40 Parkgate Rd,, Battersea S.W. 11, London, England; Harold T. Johnson, Box 477, West Hartford, Conn.; Bertram C. The Daily Stews Record of New York, in the October 16 issue, in reporting on the North Carolina Cotton Manufacturers Association meeting, ends with the following paragraph, "The incoming president of the group, H. K.Hallett, of Kendall Mills, Charlotte, will receive the gavel from the retiring president and adjourn the convention."
Because of the Alumni Fund reports, we have all been requested to keep the Class notes as brief as possible this issue. "Barkis is willing."
