Dartmouth Night in Houston was celebrated by one of our largest gatherings with much Dartmouth spirit, music, and good food. Thirty-five Dartmouth men and wives came to hear the surprising and heartily welcomed news of the Webster Scholarships. Afterwards Dwight Edson elaborated on the announcement with more details.
Another high point of the evening was a narration by Harrison Nichols '98 of the early, frame-building, Dartmouth Hall days, the undergraduate's ton of coal, the Ace of Spades which lent its hospitality to its members, and many other colorful episodes of earlier times at Dartmouth - a fitting story which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
Our president, Bob Garwick, was out in the pampas capping a runaway well and couldn't officiate at the party. Don Tobin arranged the program and assumed the duties of GusherGarwick.
In every respect Dartmouth Night was a fine success, climaxed by the very representative and excellent Hanover, '47, movie.
Deke Jackson '49 came by the Saturday after Dartmouth Night. He told me that Sam KUner '49 and he will soon be jetting about Texas. At this time Deke is stationed at Corpus Christi and Sam will soon join him there.
