The following resolution was adopted at the business meeting of the class held last June:

"Whereas the Class of 1922 of Dartmouth College, meeting on June 23, 1951, on the occasion of its Thirtieth Reunion, realizing that Dartmouth must look to her sons for the major portion of endowment adequate to meet its obligations and opportunities as a leader among the private colleges of .the nation, and believing that devotion to and support of the College by every alumnus should be projected into the future,

"Resolved: That the Class of 1922 formally pledges to the College that efforts will be made to have all members of the Class of 1922 take appropriate steps to provide for Dartmouth in their estate plans, and

"That the secretary-chairman be authorized to appoint, subject to approval by the executive committee, a bequest chairman at the proper time."

The proper time came and I am particularly pleased to announce that Gene Hotchkiss accepted appointment as bequest chairman. It goes without saying that the appointment received the hearty approval of the members of the executive committee just as it will receive, I am sure, the hearty approval of the member- ship at large. The office seemed to call for one having not only the ability to carry out the program but having, also, an awareness of the financial need of the College. With his background of experience on the Alumni Council and his continued close association with affairs of the College, Gene seems to me to fit the pattern perfectly. Even before reading this announcement, you probably have received a first communication on the subject from Gene, but I did want to announce the appointment formally, commend the project to you for your careful attention and urge your favorable action upon it. Also, I wish to acknowledge my deep appreciation to Gene for his willingness to so serve the class.

At a service last Christmas Eve, Janet Carleton became the bride of Jonathan Lewis Jr. As might be expected of John Carleton's daughter, the honeymoon trip was mapped to provide for some skiing at Sun Valley. Janet Studied at the University of Colorado after graduation from St. Mary's in the Mountains. Jonathan, a veterinarian, is a graduate of the Universities of New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.

Carroll and Nan Dwight recently announced the engagement of their daughter Mary Gay to David Bens. Mary Gay, a graduate of Beaver Country Day School, Bradford Junior College and the Nursery Training School of Boston, is presently a senior at Tufts College. David is a graduate of Suffolk University, School of Journalism.

Dr. Norman T. Crane was elected president of the Plainfield (N. J.) Board of Health at its January meeting. He has served as a member of the board since his appointment in 1950. A fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Norm is senior attending pediatrician at Muhlenberg Hospital and consulting pediatrician at Somerset Hospital.

The Hanover Inn reports the presence in town of Ken Lynde and his son in late December and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Peters in early January.

From the caption under a Springfield (Mass.) Republican group picture, in which he appeared, I learned that Spenny Smith served as vice-chairman of the executive committee for his Church Building Fund Campaign.

On January 19, Georgia Brown Pierce and Frederick Lee Bishop were married in High- land Park, Ill. This wedding was a real 1922 affair for the bride is the daughter of Bill andIsabelle Pierce and the groom is the son of Ben and Sybil Bishop. Charlie Bishop was his brother's best man. Twoters at the reception were Gene and Jeanette Hotchkiss, Jack Taylor and Jack Jr., Les and Nancy Wagner,Loosh and Pauline Sherman.

John Carleton was one of the skiing stars who donated their services as instructors at the Franconia Ski School on the January weekend of "Fun for Funds," a program to raise needed additional funds for the U. S. Olympic Ski team.

On a trip to Louisiana, it was my good fortune to be able to stop a day in Cleveland and attend the Alumni Council sessions held there February 1. Gene Hotchkiss attended, also. Thus 1922 figured very prominently in the list of ex-members in attendance, for I think we were the only ones. Gene and I were delighted to discover and sit at the table with King Fauver at the Cleveland Alumni Association dinner that evening.

Ted Davidson Jr. '51 has been kind enough to make the necessary arrangements for this year's 1922 Father and Son weekend. After checking the College schedule to avoid conflicts and the Inn schedule to be sure that comfortable accommodations would be available, he has fixed March 7 and 8 as the dates. Remembering the pleasant time enjoyed by those of us who went back for that weekend last year, I hope to be able to report in next month's column that a good number of the current fathers found it possible to attend this one.
