Well, it's just about time when we should all be looking over our four-leaf clovers all over the world. However, here in the Northwest the four-leaf clover is yet just a bump on the ground. At any rate, the warm damp spring has arrived, and we hasten to greet you all with "ahellava" cold .. . however, spring greetings to all you carefree lads and to those with spouses. The crest of the wave is riding high, so we'll jump right in like a butterfly.

Tripping with the Bumblebees What with the blood rushing fast in our veins these spring days, the men from Hanover in '5l have come ploughing down from the hills with a long list of engagements. BobHopkins heads up the extensive list with his engagement on March 15 to Joan Dreher, a Goucher Miss, no less. Bob evidently looked high wide and handsome for Big Green representatives, but found very few so had to carry the load alone. The engagement ceremonies took place at Pompano Beach, Fla., and, as you know, Bob was mentioned in last month's article as one of the sun soakeruppers of the sunshine state. I bet he's flying high now.

Bob Robinson, of the army and Lansdowne, Pa., fame, chose a home town gal in the form of Catherine Millikin for his bride to be. The engagement was announced in January with no definite date set for the wedding. Catherine is a graduate of the Moore Institute of Art, Science and Industry.

Also jumping aboard the band wagon of the joyful many is Virg Minervini whose engagement was announced in February to Helen Safgren, who graduated from Boston University and is now at the Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover. Virg is with the Army of the United States and stationed at Fort Riley, Kans., out in the cow country, and, no doubt, will welcome the day when he can head back to his eastern hinterland.

Did we report that Jim Ballard was engaged way back when, sometime in December, to Connie Doyle of Long Island, N. Y. For all we know, it might be Mr. and Mrs. by now for the Ballards. As a matter of fact, we have been in hibernation so long this winter, that I imagine Jim has left Ft. Dix, where he was stationed with the Army, by now.

Also gaining the consent back in February was Stu Johnson who got the affirmative vote from Clare Congdon. Stu recently returned from Yokohama, Japan, where he has served for two and a half years as a civilian with the department of the Army. It's great to hear that Stu will be reentering Dartmouth to complete his four years, and it is a pleasure to count him among the 'gi gang.

The furtherest away from Hanover engagement of the month probably belongs to Cpl.Bill Foster stationed at the RAF base in upper Heyford, Oxfordshire, England. Bill has chosen as his bride to be Dennison Daubeny of Hyde Park, London, and it is with pleasure that we welcome them aboard the good raft marrieds-to-be. Bill is hitting the archives at Oxford University.

Back in February, Howie Allen jumped into the swim of things with the announcement of his engagement to Jeanette Auerbach. Jeanette will finish up Smith in June and Howie is working for his Master's Degree at the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at Pennsylvania.

Amy Bowles has just been successful in hooking the ring in the nose of the green bull John Hatch. This event took place back in December of '5l, and you will please excuse the tardiness. Seriously speaking, Amy is a graduate of Boston University and the wedding will take place sometime this summer.

Blissfully walking down the lane of love back in December were jovial Bob McCraney and Betty Lou Peterson, Betty is a Minneapolis girl and attended the University of Minnesota. Bob is now with the United States Navy in Rhode Island. We hope the newly engaged will overlook our long delay in reporting this last one, especially since it's a Minneapolis affair, and therefore, close to our hearts.

Winding up this month's list of puddle jumpers is the engagement of Pete Oliver to Sigrid Astrup of Oslo, Norway. Sigrid is now a senior at Goucher College, and also attended the University of Oslo. Evidently, she had heard of the mountain men in Hanover and considers herself very successful in overtaking Pete. The only question is, however, who overtook whom. Congratulations one and all, and now we can believe the old adage that a ring in the nose equals two at Smith or five at Colby.

Nuptials Come Off There still exists another delegation among us who might be a smite happier than the previous-mentioned starry-eyeds. These are those charming fellows who have just been married. Heading off this fine spring list is Clint Washburn of the Air Force who was married on March 7 in Tampa, Fla., to Loretta Viele. Clint and Loretta were married in the Air Force Base Chapel in Tampa. Loretta is from Rochester, N. Y„ and is a graduate nurse of the Rochester State Hospital and the Strong Memorial Hospital. Very, very best felicitations Clint and Loretta.

We are sore chagrined to be reporting so late the marriage of Charlie Karste and Edith Joyce de la Vernge Pando, but they were married way back on October 28, 1951.

Our roving eye caught the recent announcement of the marriage of Arthur Hannington and Barbara Ann Schlicht. The marriage took place in February, and Wes is with the U. S. Army and will soon attend the Officers Candidate School in Georgia following the couple's honeymoon trip to Florida. Barbara is a Colgate gal and mighty proud of it. No doubt there are many other newly-marrieds that our creeping reporter has not made note of as yet. However, we feel as if we should meander on our way for this month.

Back in the Bush A nice note just in from Bob Gatzert tells us of his pleasures with the U. S. Army at Camp Breckenridge, Ky. Uncle Sam scooped Bob up in September and we must say that Sam has an eye for good men. Bob and AI Loehr crossed paths in Chicago back in January, and as we all know, A 1 is a second lieutenant in the Marines and recently married Gerry D'Amico of Colby Jr. As Bob puts it, "We managed to do the town—which is a large one_in good Dartmouth fashion."

It is rumored that Bob Damon, who is attending the Wisconsin Law School, and his wife of last summer, former Virginia Meyers, are "expecting" sometime this summer. Let's hope it qualifies for 1975 enrollment—all it would have to be now is male.

Dick Ellis dropped us a swell line quite some time ago. However, the baby ate it and I have only just now been able to piece the letter back together and to make it legible. Dick is at the Naval Academy as a midshipman and seems to be enjoying himself very much. Dick tells us that Ted Glazer is working in New York with International Business Machines. Incidentally, we are reporting now on the Dick Ellis of Massachusetts as opposed to the other Dick Ellis of Lower Slobovia. Did we report recently that Neal Crampton was at Fort Dix? Well, he was and was assigned to the 364 th Infantry Regiment and probably has just recently completed his four months' instruction in general military subjects, infantry weapons and tactics. Along with Neal, some-where on the Fort Dix campus, is Dick Hulbert.

Way back when, in scanning news items, I notice that Abdul Sheik had tea with Cedric Foster of the airwaves. Here it is almost the summer of 1952 and we're still back following up on you great gallopers way back in the summer of 1951. Paul Meyer, Dick Eitel and Charlie Russell, it seems, took a trip that would knock the normal man's wheel off. The guys went some 5,500 miles from Hanover to Fairbanks, Alaska, via two "Model A" Fords. They worked up in Fairbanks during the summer and returned at the end of it. This is some trip and we're only glad that it didn t take as long to make it as it did for us to report it.

Well, that's about it for this month, and as Jim puts it, "No matter how rough the going, no one will ever be able to take that—the Dartmouth experience—away from us." Did you give realistically to our great home in Hanover?

COAST GUARD RESERVIST: Richard W. Ellis '51, recently commissioned Ensign in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, has reported for his initial assignment to active duty.
