1906 can be proud of its record in the 1913 Alumni Fund campaign. Only six of the graduates in the class failed to send in a contribution.

And the class can be prouder still of the widows of our classmates. Seventeen of them made a gift to the College in memory of their husbands. And one son, Bill McGrail, sent in a contribution in memory of his father.

At the Eight-Class Dinner in Boston on May 1, twelve 1996 men were present. It was the fiftieth anniversary of the 11-0 Dartmouth victory over Harvard in the game which dedicated the Stadium. The following is the list of those in attendance: Chapin, Connell,Cooke, Denison, Fitts, Frazier, Gage, Powers,Rainie, Redman, Russell and Warton.

Roy Merchant Jr. was married May 16 to Miss Julia Conant of Dedham, Mass. Roy Jr. was graduated from Dartmouth in 1940.

Bill Woods was in New York the last of April checking up on the National Guard Airfields.

Two sons of 1906 have been accepted for the Class of 1957: William Halsey Edgerton and Robert Joseph French.

In Hanover on June 14, I had the pleasure of visiting with Olive Blood, Anne Meservey and Ann Perry.

Charlie Luck writes from California that he is available to any "06 family for conducting them on a Cook's Tour of the State."

Dan Carr's son, Daniel, has recently been promoted to a Lt. Colonel in the Military Air Service. At the present time he is stationed in Tacoma, Washington.

Anyone interested in raising sheep should get in touch with Arlhur Holmes as he plans to become a sheep rancher upon retirement. Julia and Arthur have already purchased a farm in Amherst, have built a Cape Cod cottage on it and have a flock of eleven ewes and four yearlings.

A note from "Chid" advises not to be frightened about retirement as he is having the time of his life. Returned recently from a trip in the wilds of Maine with a good catch of trout and salmon.

A letter from King Benton advises that his wife died several years ago and for a while he roamed around California and the Northwest. He has married again and is now located in Portland, Oregon, where he is attempting to break into landscape painting.

Caroline and Joe Cushing can now be found on Cape Cod every summer as they have built a cottage in East Orleans, Mass.

Sieve Cushing, Vermont Supreme Court Justice, has resigned his position because of ill-health. After graduation he acquired a Master of Arts degree from Middlebury College. He has held the offices of justice of the peace, city attorney and state's attorney for Franklin County and was elected chief of the superior judges April 1, 1949.

After 44 years on the Rutgers University faculty, William Twiss resigned in June as Professor of English. "Duke" took a Master of Arts degree at Harvard and then joined the faculty of Temple University, but resigned in 1909 to teach at Rutgers.

A note from Flossie Felt advises that Paul is home from the hospital and is better physically but still cannot walk without help. Keep up the good work, Paul, we are all rooting for you.

Henry Thrall is again back on the sick list with three nurses watching over him. Understand he is making some improvement and I am sure the class wishes him a speedy recovery.

Harold Rugg and Foster Guyer were placed on the retired list by the College in June. Be sure to read in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE all the fine things that has been said about them. And the next time you are in Hanover be sure to visit the Library and gaze upon the portrait of Harold painted by Paul Sample.

Our newsletter editor is back home after a 5,000-mile auto trip to Idaho and Montana. The highlight of the trip was the visit with daughter Barbara and the three grandchildren.

Art also had the pleasure of a visit with Bill Page and Lucy Howard.
