NEW YORK ON A MODEST INCOME.

Patricia Cummings and William B. Jones'49. New York: Simon and Schuster, iy2 pp.$1.50.

William B. Jones, co-author of this book, was also co-author of the very popular books For Men Lonely and Weekend, published while the authors were undergraduates. This book should also prove very popular. Here in clear and brief outline one may learn where to stay economically, how to find an apartment, and where to eat as well as find information about reasonable entertainment. Some of the chapter headings will give a notion of the plan of the book as: "Arrive With a Plan," "Finding an Apartment," "Transportation," "When It's Ninety in the Shade," "Between October and May" and "Restaurants." This last chapter together with one entitled "Bargains Everywhere" will undoubtedly be the most popular.

The list of restaurants where excellent food may be obtained* at reasonable prices not over $3.00 is a very extensive one. Over 120 such are listed. X have already taken down the addresses of several which I hope I may visit on my next trip to New York. Lobster thermador at $1.25 and roast beef dinners at $1.50 sound alluring. The book may prove to be most valuable to one who has never visited New York. The once-a-year visitor has probably already discovered some of the places mentioned. Yet he too will find the book helpful in many ways.
