Word from George Lyon indicates that he and at least three other 1947 doctors are with the Navy and Marines on Korean duty. After graduating from Harvard Medical School in 1950, he and Lou Pernokas took their intern and resident work together in surgery at the Boston City Hospital. George was then called to active duty with the Navy and in July was assigned to a hospital ship in Korean waters. Lou was ordered to active Navy duty at the same time and sent to Korea for service with the Marines. On short leaves from front-line duty, he was able to visit George on board the hospital ship. Evidence that Dr. CyrilShea is also serving with the Marines was found by George on the emergency tag of a wounded man, treated first by "C Shea" before being flown to the hospital ship. While in Japan last winter, George also met Dr. Newbold Cooper who was on his way to an assignment with the Navy in Korea.
Incidentally, did you know that George Lyon was the valedictorian of our graduating class? The College somehow held the news back until 1950, and I doubt that it was ever passed along to the class.
