This is my swan song as pinch-hitter for Steve Stevens as Class Secretary. The next article will be written by whomever you choose as your next Executive Officer. I hope you'll all be in Hanover June 19-21 to elect that man.
Damp Dampier called me last night to give me the last minute information on reunion. All's set! The program stands as last reported:
Friday afternoon (June 19) - Registration Friday 6:30 -Buffet supper in tent 7:45 -President's Reception 9:00 to 1:00 —Alumni Dance Then back to the tent for some singing, reacquainting, etc. Saturday 10:30 -Class Picture 10:45 —Class Meeting 105 Dartmouth 12:00 —Alumni Luncheon 3:00 -dark -Picnic at Country Inn Evening —Play at Webster Hall followed by entertainment at the tent led by Doc Fielding. Everyone should be well re-acquainted, by then and a grand time should be had.
Sunday morning there's time for golf for the ambitious, swimming in nearby lakes, etc., or just a good sleep-in.
It's not too late to change your mind and come along. You'll never regret it!
The best news of all is that the class tax is only $20.00 a couple. It may be a little more, possibly slightly less, but as of now that's what it'll be. For stags it'll be about $12. That includes uniform, three meals, free beer, the dance and all other things mentioned above.
Damp asked me to say that the lobsters and clams are being flown in especially for our meeting. Doesn't that make your mouth water? In case of rain he has a huge circus tent lined up for us to frolic under. There are facilities for Softball, horse-shoes and other activities at the Country Inn, which is beautifully situated high on the top of a picturesque hill.
So far I've received word that the following '43's are reunion bound: J. C. Behringer, FredLent, Bob Pelren, Jim Stewart, G. F. Tillson,Mike Thurston, Bob Liming, the members of the reunion committee, I presume, myself, and I guess that's about all. Wives will be accompanying the above, naturally.
Many others have indicated that they'll be coming but haven't sent in their reservations yet. You'll be reading this in June and things will be pretty well completed by then. I'm writing early in May because I have a deadline to reach.
An article from the lowa Alumni Review reads as follows, "One of Polk County's two representatives is Paul L. Parker. A law graduate of 1948, Parker was named outstanding young Des Moines man of 1952 by the Junior Chamber of Commerce there." Good work, Paul; looks like your political training at Hanover put you in good stead. We'll be looking for you in Washington soon! Incidentally, Paul has a pretty wife and a son Hugh, both appearing with "Rep" in a fine picture.
The international mail brings news from Paris, France. Dick Pierce says, in part: "Just a few lines to let you know that my wife and I have finally made the grade in convincing the company to let me off for the Tenth Reunion, and we're leaving France for the U. S. May 20 on the Queen Mary." If the Pierces go to the trouble and expense of coming way over from Paris, I should think some of you fellows in the good old U. S. A. might do likewise. Dick is with the American Express Company in Paris.
Glad to see that some of our boys are still taking "the big walk." Latest is Jack Kimball of Melrose. Mass. He became engaged to Susanne Elisabeth Malloy of Gorham, N. H., a very pretty girl, from'the picture I have. Jack, recently discharged from the Marines, having been recalled in 1950 after serving in the Pacific during World War II, is a graduate of Harvard Law School and at present associated with the Boston law firm of Hale and Dorr. I had the pleasure of meeting his uncle and aunt, residents of my town, and I heard the news about him, but this was before the engagement. No mention of the wedding date.
Eddie O'Brien is the other lad to take the step. Lorraine Joan Ackerman of Stewart, Minn., is to be the bride sometime in July. Eddie is presently located in Wilmette, Ill. (formerly of Bronxville, N. Y.).
Bob Dunn, New York City, and Bill Glovesky, with the Mrs., from Brookline, Mass., were recent visitors to Hanover.
News bits from here and there show that: Bob Andree is now located in Ithaca, X. Y„ with the Sinclair Refining Co. (that's enemy territory -Cornellians); Bob Brown, Assistant to the Secretary, Fairbanks Morse & Co., in Chicago; Bob Barnum, lawyer in Greenwich, Conn., with the firm of Ivey, Barnum and O'Mara; Jerry Blanchet, with the State Department in McLean, Va.; Ed Bock, social scientist at the Public Administration Clearing House in New York. Ed's our original Class Secretary, you know.
Bill Bulloch is a Science Editor at the Bell Telephone Lab in New York; Charlie Callahan has joined the honorable profession of Real Estate in Oklahoma City, Okla.; Dr.Charlie Clark is on active duty with the Navy, while Jim Evans is selling Chevrolets in Drexel Hill, Pa.
Eugene Roitman of Boston and New York, an oboe soloist, was recently the guest artist for the Salem, Mass., Philharmonics. He formerly played with the Vermont State Symphony and the Jersey City Philharmonics, and has played on the concert stages in New York where he spends most of his time.
Walter Leonard is manager of wholesale flooring for National Floors, Inc. in Pittsbuigh, Pa. Finally, we have two more auto salesmen: Tom McManus, same business, new location, now in Wakefield, Mass.: and HankPerley selling Studebakers, I believe, on Commonwealth Avenue, Boston.
That's it, gentlemen, see you in Hanover! Please help your new Secretary and keep him informed of your news, family and business, so all your friends can keep posted.
