On April 13 the Utah Dartmouth Club gathered 19 strong for its annual banquet at the Alta Club. Those present included several newcomers to the area, who were heartily welcomed.
Larry Westhaver '28 presided over libations and a very fine dinner. The principal order of business was a decision as to the feeling of the group with regard to organizing on a more permanent basis. It was the unanimous feeling that this should be done.
Without further ado officers were elected. Bob McConaughy '31, the grand old Salt Lake veteran, was elected our first president by acclamation. Larry Westhaver, who possibly thought he had evaded further duties by gallantly presiding, found that his eloquence had won him a further job as vice president, again by acclamation. Yours truly was handed the job of writing and billing, as secretary-treasurer.
Movies of Hanover were shown to the hearty few who stayed while our able technical staff headed by Jack Crenshaw '42 and Bob Achorn '39 wrestled with knotty technical problems. We were finally convinced that the sound track must have been used on the film shown to Bulgarian exchange students, but everybody agreed that the pictures were enjoyable.
It is rather epic making that Dartmouth has accepted three Salt Lake boys this year: David J. Vorse and William T. Duvall of East High School and Richard Anthony Hess, son of Dick Hess '24. We are reliably informed that they all plan to go to Hanover in the fall. We wish them every success and hope this is the start of a really solid nucleus of Dartmouth undergraduates in the area.
