To conclude a successful interviewing season the Club sponsored its first reception for incoming freshmen from this area as the main part of our May meeting. Held at the home of Morris Stein '36, the meeting was attended by more than twenty alumni and five members of the Class of 1958. The alumni did a fine job of answering the questions thought up by the recently-accepted candidates and stirred up a host of pleasant memories in the bargain.
In the business part of the meeting BillEnglish '41 and Morrie Stem were reelected president and treasurer, respectively. "Shorty"Thomas '34 was named vice president, and Jack Jenness '44, secretary. Reelected to the Board of Governors were Ralph Bavier '28, Frank Strong '27, George Gibson '23, Hal Braman '21, and Tom McLarney '32.
With seven members of the Class of 1958 from the Torrington area, Stuart Cleaveland '27 had hoped for a supper meeting with these boys and his interviewing committee. Unfortunately, he was laid up for six weeks with a bad eye and the get-together had to be postponed until the Christmas holidays.
Doug Thomson '49, this year's general chairman of the interviewing committees, English, and Jenness will attend a meeting in Hartford on September 15 to coordinate interviewing and enrollment activity with other Connecticut clubs. Although we have undertaken no formal enrollment activity in the past, prep schools like Hotchkiss, Taft, Gunnery, Cheshire Academy, and Salisbury, plus the numerous local high schools, provide a fertile field that we hope to use to good advantage.
