The deadline for the class notes for the February issue came and went and due to a siege of sickness it was impossible to write anything. I regret that I was unable to follow through with my assignment, but circumstances got beyond control.

Since the first of the year there has not been much news sent in and consequently the items to report are few and far between.

Information has been received concerning the announcement and early January wedding of Nancy Miller to Norm Probstein who at the present time is residing in St. Louis, Mo. From Port Chester way comes word that DacyStevens was named chairman of the 1954 Red Cross Fund Drive. At the present time, Dacy is practicing law and now resides at 134 Betsy Board Road. In the past he has been very active in civic affairs and has served in the capacity as director of Civil Defense and other worthwhile community undertakings.

Since it was impossible to prepare any notes for the February issue, this news is possibly a little out of date but I feel that it is worthy of mention at this time, and consequently wish to quote in full a letter received from Michael McGean '49, who is assistant to the Secretary of the College: "I thought you would be interested to know that Graham B. Conklin (Atlanta, Ga.) of the class of '43 recently attended the highly successful southern regional conference in Atlanta. This man has given very generously of his time and money to make Dartmouth even a stronger national College."

I hope that by reporting the contents ofthis letter it will serve as an inspiration forother class members. A sho.rt time ago I received a very interesting letter from RussSherburne in New Mexico, and in view of thefact that it was so factual and brings forth theidea of do or die for the Class of '43,1 thoughtit might be of interest to publish it in full:

"I have been meaning to write to you for sometime, but as you probably know some things continually are postponed because the appropriate time to do them does not seem to occur. I reel that I should write to you occasionally since I am sure that I am the only member of '43 in these parts and probably the only alumnus of any class. About a year ago John Collins '47 lived here also and we considered forming a Las Cruces Dartmouth Alumni Club. However, the voting for secretary and president always came out a tie, one to one, so we never achieved formal status. In spite of this, we often got together for tennis, dinner, a bullfight, etc. Now that John, is gone I can easily get a majority in the voting and have elected myself secretary and acting president. As secretary my first duty is to report on the Club's (coasting of myself) activities. As yet there is no omciai stationery so please excuse this scribbling on yellow sheets.

"First I wish to recommend your suggestion about a class directory. I would certainly find it useful and am sure that many other class members would also.

"I am still associated with the physics department at the New Mexico College of A.&M.A. ana the physical science laboratory here, dividing iny time about evenly between teaching and researcn. A large portion of the laboratory work is associated with the rocket programs at White oana Proving Ground about thirty miles from here.

"During the spring and summer of this yea I had an interesting experience as writer and moderator of a half-hour weekly program on TV, El Paso, Texas. The program was scientific, discussing rockets and associated problems. There was a total of 28 programs before we ended the series last August. There are tentative plans now for kinescoping a 13-program series to be distributed to educational TV stations.

"Followed Dartmouth's up-and-down football fortunes this fall and was pleased with the way the season ended. I believe things look better for next year. Since there is no one else about whom I can send news, my reports will be quite short, but hope to be able to send something occasionally. Hated to miss reunion in June but just could not make it.

"In closing I would like to extend an invitation to visit us to anyone who gets to this part of the country. Las Cruces is on Route 80, a main eastwest highway, and we can be contacted most easily by looking us up in the Las Cruces telephone directory."

I hope these letters prove of interest to everyone and as your class secretary I would sincerely appreciate more of the same. As has been stated in the past the column belongs to members of the class and thus I feel it should be a medium whereby letters or other information should be published in order to show the activities of class members throughout the country.
