On March 31 Joe Raphael was given a testimonial luncheon by the office staff of the Medical Practice Committee of Workingmen's Compensation Act at White's Restaurant in New York City.
It was a complete surprise to Joe who was presumably being taken there for lunch by some of his medical colleagues on the committee on the last day of his service. After luncheon there were speeches from members of the staff, and by the head of the New York staff of the Workingmen's Compensation Act, and from his associates as well as old friends.
Some reference was made to his appearance and residence at Dartmouth by a former roommate, no other than Bunker Bishop. The emphasis was naturally on his skill and conscientiousness, but also on his kindliness, his honor and integrity. He received some gifts to commemorate his term of service and the affection in which he is held. We are told Joe did not lose his poise but he never was so near speechlessness. Bunker and Pearl were very proud to be in attendance with other old friends, and as always 1901 can be very proud of such a distinguished member.

Charlie Howe celebrated last Thanksgiving by entering the hospital for an operation. Not very serious but sufficient to slow him down some. We are glad to note, however, that he is gradually getting back to normal, and that means he is going to do plenty around his home.... The executive committee gave him a luncheon at the Hotel Bellevue and presented him with appropriate gifts. He plans to attend his 50th Reunion at the Seminary at Hartford this year. T.
