Dartmouth men in the Motor City, seventy of them, gathered at the University Club, Friday, April 2, for our 59th annual meeting. Traditional beverages and rare roast beef mellowed spirits, and before those in attendance were any the wiser the following officers and directors were appointed: Tom Candler '45, president; Bob Sumner '33, vice president; Phil Moon '42, secretary-treasurer; DickDickson '50, assistant secretary-treasurer; TomMcMahon '50, director and Bill Merrill '45, director.
These men, in addition to Bob Grow '33, retiring president; Garv Bawden '47, DonWilliams '36, Rem Ryder '35 and RogerGraves '37, holdover directors, constitute our executive committee.
The meeting was highlighted by Tuss McLaughry's talk on the Dartmouth scene with particular reference to the athletic situation, and we were also honored by the attendance of Red Rolfe '31 and Bayard Johnson '54. Red gave us a preview of his plans and Bayard supplemented Tuss's discussion of football prospects. Before adjournment, Tom Candler, speaking for all the members, expressed our appreciation to Bob Grow who generously contributed of his time and effort during his two-year reign as president. All business fortunately was concluded just in time for a few poker games.
Big doings are in the making for the summer season, including at least one stag golf outing and dinner and a picnic to which wives or dates will be invited. It is a little early for details regarding these events, but all on our mailing list will get the word in the near future.
In addition to our regular informal Monday luncheons (as advertised elsewhere) the Club sponsors the annual dinner sometime in the spring, and a stag party every Dartmouth Night. Every summer there are one or more golf outings and it is hoped that the proposed picnic will prove so successful that it will become an annual affair.
We are particularly interested in any newcomers to the Detroit area. If you have just relocated here, or if, for some reason, you are not on our mailing list, contact PhilMoon or Dick Dickson, WO. 5-6000, so you don't miss out on our gatherings.
