ALTHOUGH some of the classmates arrived earlier in the week, Friday, June 18, was the day Fourteen's Fantastic Fortieth really started to roll. Chairman Remsen and Treasurer Curtis were at headquarters in Middle Mass to see that all were safely checked in. The majority had arrived by late afternoon when Mart and Kathleen Remsen staged their cocktail party in and outside the Ski Hut back of the Inn. Special mention should be made of Jack Dellinger all the way from Texas, the McDonoughs from Denver, HankLlewellyn from Illinois, and Ben Quarles from Washington, D. C., all of whom had not been about for several years. The Class Dinner, held as usual and quite fittingly in the Hovey Grill, followed, with the main talks by President Dickey and Professor Foley, and remarks by Jack Conners, Elly Buck and Chairman Mart. While we were enjoying this activity, the ladies were happily cared for at the Outing Club. The balance of the evening was spent at the President's Reception and in our tent where the singing and reuning continued until hours much too late for such young people.

Saturday was a beautiful day from start to finish. After we had breakfasted in various places, our Kiltie Band (courtesy Rocky Flanders) summoned us to the stand at the north end of the campus for the class picture. Then to the Class Meeting in Silsby Hall, which was highlighted by an admirable statement by Sig Larmon on the admissions problem and the new scholarship plan entered into by some 75 colleges; the announcement of the Class of 1914 Scholarship and its first recipient; reports of the Secretary and Treasurer; and statements on the Alumni Fund by Ellsworth Buck and on the Bequest Program by Mart Remsen. Nominating Committee Chairman Piane presented the slate of new officers which was elected as follows; President Ellsworth B. Buck; Vice-President, Bill Hands; Treasurer. Charlie Batchelder; Secretary, PenAborn; Chairman of Executive Committee, Loring Nichols; Class Agent, Jim Gregg. MartRemsen will continue his grand work on Be- quests. A vote of appreciation for the work of Conners, Drake and Sisson was passed with rising and vocal approval. After adjournment some time remained for more chit-chat in the tent until the Bagpipers summoned us to march to the Alumni Luncheon at the Gym to which wives were invited also. The Kilties were the hit of the meeting, entertaining the entire gathering at the luncheon and before the Alumni Association Meeting. From our standpoint the important points of the meeting were the winning of the cup for highest percentage (40%) of graduates returning (Mart accepted the cup from Sid Hayward with the ever-present Remsen smile), the unveiling of the Dr. John W. Bowler Memorial Tablet which was a project proposed by Fred Davidson and promoted by Ducky Drake.

There was then some free time to visit friends in town, inspect buildings and just sit, before taking off for Wah-Hoo-Wah Farm and the PICNIC. We were greeted not only by the Naramores, but by a large GREEN turkey with a 1914 bowtie, numerous cattle with 1914 blankets, and cheers by what seemed to be thousands of turkeys. Nary must have been in cahoots with the weatherman as the ladies received favors of attractive sun-bonnets which were very welcome in the bright sunlight, while the men were presented with 1914 Cocktail Flags to fly from the masthead of their cruisers or rowboats when cocktails are to be served aboard. We couldn't resist comments on the contrast in weather this day and that four years ago when the northwest wind brought out all the foul-weather gear and fur coats available, and the steaks cooled off the moment they came off the fire. This time succulent clams and boiled lobster, corn, fried chicken and all the fixins' made it difficult to rise from the tables set up in the shade of the trees on the beautiful stretch of lawn. However many got back to Hanover in time to see the Dartmouth Players stage Harvey under the direction of Warner Bentley — an excellent performance! Afterwards there was still time to offer further evidence of 1914 claim to be the 'singingest class' with Dick Barlow's voice still ringing true aided by all the rest, wives included both in voice and at the piano. They were still going strong when your scribe retired sometime after midnight.

Sunday morning, a breakfast meeting of your new officers and then to the Memorial Service for our 123 departed classmates. It was particularly impressive, held on the steps of Old Dartmouth, the morning as beautiful as a Hanover morning can be, and the strains of the organ in Rollins Chapel providing appropriate background music. Our three clergymen, Fraser, Knight, and Wheelock participated in commemorating our classmates and at the end of the service Walt Humphreys read some verse which was fitting to the occasion and which will appear in the News Letter.
