One more leaf off the calendar and a new college year comes up. We old guys are once more taking our shots from behind the eight ball of eighty, plus or minus, years.
Letters from classmates to Gib have been forwarded from Hanover, where Gib writes of his visit and refers to the old scene, as it recalls old '97 memories. Bolser and Gib visited.
Received a number of letters from MikeKelly, and one from Dr. Remus G. Robinson, son of our classmate Remus, recently elected to the Board of Education in Detroit. I quote:
Dear Dr. Kelly: Please excuse this delay in acknowledging receipt of your kind letter. I am very happy to say that I am the son of your classmate, Remus G. Robinson.
I suppose one of the reasons why you were unable to get information about my father is that he passed away rather early - before 1910 — and at that time, he was living in the South. David Robinson, his brother, however, who is retired is living in your city, Indianapolis, Ind., and he is, I am sure, very anxious to hear from you. I am., enclosing his address for your convenience.
If it is your pleasure, I would be very happy to drop in on you sometime when I pass through Indianapolis. I am including for your convenience, also, a bit of information which we compiled during the last campaign.
"Please be assured that I am extremely happy that you wrote and I shall look forward expectantly to another note real soon."
A letter from Dartmouth Library reads:
"Baker Library has just received from Dr. RoyJ.Ward three textbooks used by his great great uncle, Ebenezer Brackett of the Dartmouth Class of 1789, during his undergraduate days. These volumes are in addition to several similar books given by Dr. Ward in the recent past. They have of course, considerable sentimental and associational value to the College, being connected as they are with the early days of its being. They are being placed in a special collection of early Dartmouth textbooks which is maintained as an adjunct to the archival collections of the College."
Have an interesting card from Billie Balch regarding old photos and history of the old town of Hanover by the author of Trautwine hand book. Maybe these will fill in some gaps in our information about Hanover.
Best wishes to our classmates as we huddle closer in our numbers.
