With birthday greetings still in order for '99ers, here are some November ones your scribe overlooked, but wishing 'em just the same, even though a month late, to Joe Gannon,Albert Galusha, Fod Martin and LeonWoodman, with December greetings to MontieFuller and Joe Hobbs. Sam Smith and his sister drove over from Pembroke in October for a call on Tim Lynch at his Cotuit home that's on Cape Cod in case you didn't know and Tim says that Sam still looks like a young fellow in spite of his years. Tim's former teachers gave him a party last May at commencement time and thereat presented him with an outdoor lounge on which Tim says he spent most of the summer. On November 14 he was scheduled to start for the Carolina at Pinehurst for his usual winter sojourn. Don't sit in the sun too long! Herb Rogers' wife Laura did last July and it hit her for a partial sunstroke from which, fortunately, she made a good recovery, though it was slow.
Joe Gannon made his usual ten-day fall visit to Hanover in October, though air travel on the trip from New York was somewhat interfered with by bad weather. Got a flight as far as Boston, and then had to make the rest of the journey the old-fashioned way, by train. Good old B. & M.! Joe reports the '99 tree as still thriving. He attended Dartmouth Night, which reminds your Sec that '99 was the first class on which this event was tried out by Prexy Tucker, way back in the fall of '95. I'll bet that we got more of a kick out of it than many did who were at the one this fall! Joe has announced the arrival of his fourth greatgrandson, Matthew Lionel Carpenter. Last report on Helen and Warren Kendall, last of October, was that they had closed their summer home at Kennebunk Beach and were on their way to winter quarters at Sarasota, Fla.
Clarence Joy's grandson, Ensign William L. Plumb, a Cornell graduate like his dad, was married October 8 at Wilkinsburg, Pa. The bride was Barbara Louise Brown. They will make their residence at San Diego, Calif. There was a wedding anniversary in Newport, N. H., on October 19, a Golden Wedding. The principals were Hawley Bernard Chase and Margaret Van-Vleet Chase. The celebration was all a grand surprise, worked out by the couple's two daughters and their husbands: Janet and Chester F. McSpadden o£ Monclair, N. J., and Marion and John N. Berry Jr. of Newport. Fourteen-year-old Betsey Ann Berry presided at the beautifully decorated dining table, where were a delicious wedding cake, dainty sandwiches and fruit punch. She was assisted by three of her high school friends. There were two large set floral pieces, besides a vase of huge white and yellow mums, .and another of golden rose buds. It was a very happy occasion and they received many substantial gifts, neighbors and friends dropping in during the evening to extend congratulations and best wishes. Among the out-of-town guests were Kenneth Beat, a 'gg classmate and fraternity brother of Hawley, and May Beal, his wife, from Bradford.
As president of the Hawaiian Alumni Association, Louis Benezet attended the Regional Conference held in San Francisco on October 6 to 9, write-up on which appeared in the November issue. Benny was the senior alumnus present, and to him it was a very interesting event. From San Francisco he flew to Denver and thence to Colorado Springs just in time for the civic reception tendered son Louis, the new president of Colorado College. Benny went through the line, and when members of the faculty and their wives discovered him they seized upon him and treated him like royalty. He was back in Honolulu only seven days from the time he left. Some speedy!
