The editor has requested brevity in this issue because of the number of Alumni Fund contributions to be listed. I shall comply for such a potent reason, and if you have already read these notes in a Newsletter, you will think this is an echo, or bells ringing in your head.
The Harvard game is history; you know about that, but did you know that Alec Jardine and Estelle had rooms at the Inn (both having lived right), and entertained the '16ers after the game. Present in Hanover were: the McKenzies, the Gran Fullers, the FrankBobsts (with grandson Fran); the Cutlers; the Fennos; the Georges; the Stearns; Jim McQuesten; Bill Caldwell (with his friend Jim Sisk 'l5; John Pelletier; Honey Abraham and son; Jim Coffin; the Roy Burkhardts and JohnAmes, who is staying there with Ed Booth '18; and Duffy Lewis.
If I am repeating myself, sue me, but RosMagill has been named chairman of the committee on tax problems of the professions by the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. Ros is just about Mr. Tax himself by now, with the universal recognition of his standing at the head of his profession in this field.
A letter from Judge Phillips, the philosopher of the West Coast, was read at the Boston dinner at Loch Obers, to the '16 group. It was the highlight of the dinner, I'm told.
Jack English writes he and Kay expect to visit Florida this winter, and you can look for a reunion of the Englishes and Wilsons, and maybe we can ring Hap Ward in, too. Incidentally, Jack expects another grandchild in February. More of this later. Kathy English had her fourth son; and Joanne had a daughter (don't ask me the married names) and Jack now has seven grandchildren.
Ev and Claire Parker flew to Europe October 7 to be gone till December 10.
Mary Fuller writes me of Don's boys: Charlie was married June 25th to Joanne Babcock of Cattaraugus, N. Y. They are living there as he works for Selter Bros., an interior finish and panel concern. Ted was married September 8 to Patricia Pepper in Honolulu and Mary flew out and back to that "Paradise of islands." Pat is a daughter of USMC Lt. Gen. and Mrs. R. H. Pepper. Ted graduated from Dartmouth in '54 and is an ensign in the Navy, stationed at Pearl Harbor.
Coincidences: Dan Dinsmoor and Joe New-mark met on a Boston-New York plane and made the trip together. Joe was on a buying trip for his exclusive shop in Salem (adv.) and Dan was on one of his periodic long treks for the chemical outfit in which he is an important figure.
I'll keep this brief, as the editor requests, and close with this welcome news from LivyCole:
"I am back in partial circulation after a long forced idleness. Everybody says I look fine, and I should, because I have done nothing but rest for over three months. I want to tell you how much encouragement I got from your letters and from other members of the Class. Needless to say I have been given a running account of everything that went on from Jack English."
More of his letter in the Balmacaan letter coming up soon (I hope).
