The space available for class notes is curtailed this month to make room for the Alumni Fund Report, which is pretty good reading in its own right. By the time this is published, you will already have received the Fourth Report to a Great Class, reviewing the year's activities and the transactions of the Executive Committee at its annual meeting on November 11. The new chairman is EdBurns, who has already distinguished himself in the service of the Class as chairman of the Scholarship Fund. Ham Thayer takes over as chairman of the Faculty Fund.

Parker Merrow writes that he saw DeakBlodgett and Line Davis when they drove to Center Ossipee after the Harvard game to shoot some color. These are the very gentlemen who have taken upon themselves, as a labor of love, the task of taking, editing, and preserving the Class movies, for which we shall be ever in their debt. The other news is that Parker has finally sold his 1926 Model T and replaced it with a monster 1932 Packard which, he says, swallows a pint of gas every time he chokes it.... Pete Kelsey was in Hanover for the Holy Cross game, visiting his son Pete '58.... Also registered at the Inn during October were Dr. and Mrs. Bernard J. Manning, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Heydt, and Mr. andMrs. Henry L. Fleet.

Syd Batchelder reports that he has recently returned from an extended motor tour in Europe. ... Frank Wallis' recent trip abroad was unhappily interrupted by an emergency appendectomy in Marseilles, where it was touch and go for a while. He is now well again and back at work, for which great thanks.

Comdr. Phil Coykendall had been contemplating retirement from the Navy but has decided to continue in service for another two years. He and Phoebe are off to the Philippines where Phil is to be executive officer of the 30th Construction Regiment... . ChuckMac Millan is chief engineer for the Bear Manufacturing Company of Rock Island, Ill. He and Sally have two sons — James, 13, and Frederick, 10. Sally recently started the organization of the Rock Island Art Guild. One of her recent paintings appears in the October issue of Ford Times.

Marty Huberth, after serving four years as a Councilman of the Town of New Castle, N. Y„ was recently defeated in a Republican primary for renomination. Never one to accept defeat complacently, he organized, with his associates and supporters, a fusion ticket. When this was ruled off the ballot on technical grounds, they got themselves listed on the Democratic line of the voting machine, although continuing to run as Republicans, and won. Imagination boggles at the thought of some 1700 Westchester Republicans pulling the Democratic lever, but that's what they did - and in a good cause, too.

There was a good turnout for the annual informal reunion over the Cornell game weekend. Twenty-two were at the meeting and a few more at the game and the cocktail party and dinner which followed at the Norwich Inn, and almost all had the good sense to bring their wives. The meeting was notable not only for the important business transacted but as an example of a group of men working together to a common end, each offering his opinion not that it might prevail, but as a contribution to the whole pattern of an enterprise. The result was lively discussion and ultimate agreement. As to the Cornell game, this was the best-looking Dartmouth team your secretary has seen in many years alert, well conditioned, and well drilled. Win, lose or draw, they would have been good to watch, but it didn't hurt any that they won a clean, fast game in which Cornell simply wasn't given a chance to get started.

It was wonderful to see Elbra Davis at the dinner. Her being there is not only an evidence of her own unquenchable courage, but an inspiring reminder of one of the major factors in our having become what we are, as a Class and to each other - the participation of our wives. It can in truth be said that in each of our families there are two loyal Twenty-fivers, for which we may consider ourselves doubly blessed.
