As we bounce into our last visit before several months' rest from chasing you all wherever you might have been, we cannot help but look back on this past year as a productive one for you We have had many more engagements still a strong increase in marriages, and, of course, an over production of children. ... To say nothing of students, uranium hunters, just plain wage-earners, and an international Don Juan chasing Aly's girl. If you haven't gotten into Gary Mansur and Company's game, please think of sipping cool Tanzi beer on a warm Hanover evening down by the banks of the Connecticut, up on Oak Hill, or wherever it may have been, but for gosh sakes, don't delay another minute in sending your check to the Fund.
Now let's jump into a little bit of the fine points of the game before we call a halt for this season. First of all, lucky enough to have been in Hanover recently, we find Mr. andMrs. W. Bruce Robertson, of Beverly, Mass., plus George Marshall. From this happy note, let's jump to a still "happier" one. Engagements.
Heading off the list, we find Adolph Berger who got the affirmative nod from Miss Helene Reiback (Barnard '56). Their wedding will take place in June. Al has seen service as a second lieutenant in the old Air Force. Mary Sweeney and Don Klinck will also be wed in June. Don is now teaching at the Loomis School, Windsor, Conn., after having grabbed his M.A. degree from Columbia. Mary has also studied at Columbia. We have another betrothal in the forms of Al Moses and Carol Whitehill. Al is now stationed in Washington, D. C., after having turned traitor and done graduate work at Princeton. Carol graduated from Vassar, and is now a member of the teaching staff at the New York School for Nursery Years, New York.
Here it is, almost mid-summer, and yet we can't seem to get away from the deep snows and the smell of newly waxed skis, or at least, the thoughts of them. Brookie Dodge jumps into the spotlight again this month with his selection by the Olympic Committee for the 1956 Olympic Ski Team. The events will be held next winter in Italy.
Outstanding scholastic achievements are still being garnered by some of our throng. For his excellence in the medical field at the State University of Medicine in Brooklyn, BobBrod has been named to Alpha Omega Alpha, national medical honor fraternity. Bob is in his third year, and is also an ensign in the Naval Reserve. He'll report for active duty this summer at St. Albans Naval Hospital.
Nelson Brown is up near Eskimo land, stationed at Ernest Harmon Air Force Base, in Newfoundland. Previous to Uncle Sam's service, Nels was employed with the 2nd National Bank of Boston. He left wife Margaret home earning more money - she's teaching the third grade at Blanchard School in Brookfield, Mass.
Just one marriage to report this month. LesViereck and Eleanor Norton were married in Bennington, Vt., at the home of Les' brother. Eleanor is a graduate of Albion College and is now doing graduate work at Smith. After her graduation in June, she and Les will live in Knob Lake, Quebec, where Les is already, at the McGill Subarctic Research Laboratory, doing graduate work in Arctic botany. After Dartmouth, Les attended the University of Alaska.
We hear through the grapevine that Lincoln Fenno is with the W. T. Grant Company in Great Barrington, Mass.; also that ChuckStorer is a member of the newspaper world, working for the Daily Capitol Journal in Pierre, S. D. Paul Wenger is in the law field, as a member of the firm of Musick, Peeler & Garrett in Los Angeles, Calif.
Thanks to a lengthy letter from Ed Post, we've finally caught up with Bruce Bryant. Bruce forsook the ranks of bachelorhood last January 28 and married Sandy Becker of Seattle. Bruce and Sandy are now working on his thesis, and most likely Sandy will frame the Ph.D. in geology from the University of Washington this June. Bruce then plans to work for the U.S.G.S. in the Bearpaw Mts. of Montana this summer. Ed also tells us that he's heard from both Wes Blake and JohnnySater recently. Both are in the Army - Wes in the Trans Arctic Group at Ft. Eustis, Va., and John teaching photogrammetry to the Engineers at Ft. Belvoir, Va. And Wes writes that Hap and Lissa Person are still in Baltimore, where Hap is stationed with the Coast Guard. Betty and Ed had dinner not so long ago with Charlie and Marilyn Breed, ergo the snappy picture. After three years in the Army, Charlie is working on a Master's degree in geology at the University of Colorado. Ed winds up by saying that Edwin Jr. (2 years) and Priscilla (8 months) manage to keep the Post fairly well occupied - and besides domestic duties, Ed's working on Black Hills uranium geology, plus helping Newc Eldredge '50 run the third annual Dartmouth Cup Giant Slalom at Arapahoe Basin. Many thanks for all the dope, Ed, you saved our lives this month. Wish more of you "51ers would try to do the same.
Howie Reid, no doubt a father by now, but also an antique expert, flashed before us in the form of a picture in the Minneapolis paper recently. Howie headed a committee in the Mpls. Jr. Chamber of Commerce which promoted a big antique show. Wife, Torry, must have produced by now, but just what variety, we do not know.
Did we tell you that Bill McFadden recently headed to Montana to scout the plains and sagebrush for prospective stocks and bonds customers? Bill got his initial training with the Mpls. Office of Piper, Jaffray and Hopwood, and is now selling out of their Great Falls office, and, no doubt, enjoying the hunting and fishing.
We ran into Dave Wiggins some months ago. Uncle Sam finally let him out, and since then, Dave has been working at the Northwestern National Bank here in Minneapolis, as well as poking into several "deals" he dug up in the Pacific.
Nadia and Juli Olney recently popped into new, enlarged living quarters in preparation for the expected arrival of one or more little Olneys some time in July. This month will see Juli receive his Master's degree in business from New York University.
A very balding but we hope accurate source of underground information informs us that Mike Harris, Sgt., that is, has been released from the Air Force after four years of service. Chuck Nadler and David Dowd are to be congratulated since both have recently graduated from the Northwestern Medical School. Chuck is on his way to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, while Dave is interning at the St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago.
Word hot off the ticker is that Ted Keith, formerly at Tuck School with our boys, is now with the Worcester Trust Company. PeteFrederick is reported to be enjoying the warm south, I believe it's Virginia or West Virginia, since General Electric moved him down there recently.
It's wonderful to have the opportunity of being in Hanover and seeing many familiar faces again. This summer, which we hope will be another fine one for you and your families, don't forget to drop us a card or letter to tell us what you are doing and why. The best of luck to all of you. DAVE.
