Ralph W. Doane died at his home on Doane Road in Harwichport, Mass., on September 29, at the age of 89. He came to Dartmouth from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the winter of our freshman year and remained until the end of spring term in sophomore year. He had been a lifelong resident of his Cape Cod town, where he had served on the school committee and, for many years, as town moderator. His obituary will appear in the In Memoriam section of the December issue of this magazine.

On September 14 and 15 the College was host to the sixth annual fall meeting of Class Bequest and Estate Planning chairmen, at which there was an excellent attendance with nearly all classes from 1889 through 1931 being represented. Late afternoon on the first day a reception for class representatives, their wives and alternates was held in the Hanover Inn lounge, followed by a dinner in the main dialing room of the Inn. That evening, in I lie Sanborn House Library, a general meeting was held' for class representatives and guests, presided over by Ellsworth Buck '14, Chairman of Alumni Council Committee on Bequest and Estate Planning, at which Dudley W. Orr '29, Chairman, Trustee Committee on Plant, spoke on Plans for Future Development of Dartmouth's Plant.

The next morning the group again met in the Sanborn House Library for a general business meeting, at which Ellsworth Buck '14 presided. George H. Colton '35, executive secretary, submitted his report, following which there was a group discussion led by Mr. Buck, the topic being "A Program of Action for This Fall." Following this discussion there were brief talks on taxes and insurance as they affect estate planning by J. Ross Gamble '33 and H. Sheridan Baketel '20 respectively. The sixth annual fall meeting closed with a luncheon at the Outing Club House that noon, at which President John Sloan Dickey '29 spoke on Dartmouth's Future Financial Needs.

In renewing her subscription to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, the widow of our outstanding athlete of college days, "Jabe" Ellis, whose memory remains bright among all living students of his time, wrote that the Ellis family were guests at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in northern Michigan during the summer. The hotel has a magnificent view and is a heavenly place to stay on a vacation, she wrote, —no T.V., no radio, no automobiles, only one airplane passing while they were there. Horse drawn vehicles are the only mode of conveyance there, and the favorite passtime is driving about this picturesque island in a horse drawn equipage. Even to this time, this small island in northern Michigan evidently retains its oldtime charm.
