Bill Kirk is assistant manager of the real estate and industrial department of The Boston and Maine Railroad. From his office in the North Station, Bill can almost physically keep his eye on all of Northern New England. At least with his wall maps, globes, and staff of researchers, he knows where important real estate developments are opening up. Bill is married to the former Katherine Gibbs' co-ed. Nancy Markham. They live at 40 Lincoln Street, Stoneham, Mass. Bill passes the word along that Jack Teulon, industrial agent for the city of Manchester, N. H., has done a wonderful job of relocating new business in the city and renting the miles of factory space left vacant by Amos Keag Mills and others.
In Barre, Vt., Morris Jones is vice-president of the Jones Brothers Co., a century-old granite quarry firm founded by his grandfather. Don Erion was vice-chairman of the Community Chest drive in Nashua, N. H., working with Don Jeffery '29, another campaign vice-chairman. Don helped to raise over $86,000.00 in the Nashua-Hudson area.
Everybody pitches in at Candlewood Farm, Dan Poor's stud farm for race horses and hunters at Ipswich, Mass. Dan's wife, the former Elizabeth Van Blarcom, who has loved horses all her life, with help from Judy, 11, and Dick, 13, runs the farm during the day, while Dan works as an accountant at the Sylvania Electric Products Co. about twelve miles away. When there's foaling, which (like humans) usually happens at night, Dan gets called for nighttime work. With eight to ten horses at Candlewood, Betty Poor has said, "It's a 25-hour day, but we're having the time of our lives."
My mailbag has been overflowing all this fall. Many thanks for your good letters which are so much fun to receive in the first place, and from which I can glean personal news for the column. Most of you feel you don't have any news of world-shaking importance to pass on, but that's not the kind of news that makes the column interesting. It's just the everyday news of you that we want. For example, BudWolfe wrote me in September, "There really is no astonishing news about me that would exactly make headlines in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE....
"As you probably know, I returned to the East after four years in California with Joe Jayne at the Plas-Tex Corporation. Since my return, I have been exceedingly busy trying to get the Bridgeport Brass Company established in the Utensil field and it has been a most interesting, invigorating, and exciting procedure. Things look great and I am most content in this new endeavor.
"I am afraid that I have not run into many old Dartmouths in spite of the fact that I have covered the entire country fairly thoroughly during the past two years. I do maintain a very close contact with Ben Moyer, however, and we spent Labor Day weekend with his lovely family in Franconia, N. H."
