WHEN President and Mrs. Dickey sailed from New York on February 10 on the 5.5. Independence for three months abroad, they took with them the best wishes of faculty, friends and alumni. President Dickey's last official appearance was at the annual dinner of the Boston Alumni Association on February 8, where Dean Joseph L. McDonald read the following bon voyage telegram from Hanover:

"Members of the faculty and staff in Hanover send best wishes to you and Mrs. Dickey on the eve of your departure for three months' mission in Europe. Although you will visit many universities abroad, your colleagues on campus urge you both to take some vacation time, including after-dark inspection of famous European spots not on your formal itinerary. Dartmouth looks its best today with fresh snow piled deep along campus paths, and Dartmouth is strong today under your leadership. We who serve the College with you both send this message of admiration, affection and appreciation, hoping the trip goes well, and looking forward to your return."

During their tour, which is being made under the auspices of the Carnegie Corporation, the Dickeys will visit numerous universities and will travel in Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Holland and Denmark. They will conclude their trip with a month's residence in Great Britain, re turning to Hanover in late May.
