On December 29 our Club entertained the prospective Dartmouth students of the Class of 1960. Quite a large gathering of alumni and students who are now enrolled in the College attended. The applicants were shown 35 mm. slides from Chuck Garnsey's ('20) collection. Dave Hillman, Stan Orovitz, Joe Dare and John Towle, students who are presently enrolled in college, delivered interesting talks to the assembled group. Each chose a different subject - ranging from scholarship to sports. The applicants as well as the many alumni present thoroughly enjoyed the clear-cut presentations. We all gained the distinct impression that Dartmouth is still sharpening the minds of her sons.
Since the last report from this outpost an important event has taken place. The Dartmouth Club of South Florida divided its area of membership in half, forming a new club in the northern portion, called the "Dartmouth Club of the Gold Coast." This split was mutually agreed upon by all the alumni in South Florida after a post card survey and meetings in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. The area of the new club takes in 75 Broward and Palm Beach County residents while the old club claims 85 residents of Dade County south to Key West.
In recent years the distance from Palm Beach (75 miles) and Ft. Lauderdale (thirty miles) has resulted in Miami meetings being attended only occasionally by an alumnus from out of town. The new club plans temporarily to hold a luncheon at 12:15, the third Friday of each month, in the Hunt Room of the Boca Raton Club, twenty miles north of Ft. Lauderdale. This meeting place should solve travel problems and bring many alumni back as active club members.
Ralph Sethness '38, Phil Dressier '39 and Bob Ross '45 were elected president, vice president and secretary respectively at the January 20th meeting in Boca Raton. South Florida wishes these men and their members good luck and success.
