In spite of Miami's first tornado (we are not supposed to have them things down here, only hurricanes and they have moved to New England) and a deluge of three inches of rain, all in an hour, and that hour the scheduled start of our annual meeting, 53 drenched and wind-blown, but still undaunted, hale and hearty alumni, friends and parents of students now in college, were able to hold their cars on the roads and almost swim to the Bal Harbor Hotel on Miami Beach for the festivities on April 10. President Ed Hodgson '42 and ex-Secretary DickMaloy '49 and their able assistants deserve a big Wah Hoo Wah for arranging a swell evening.
The piece de resistance of course was (aside from a good dinner) direct from Hanover, the Dean of the College, Joseph L. McDonald. He was most ably introduced by ex-Professor of Music, Fred Longhurst, who let us into some of the things that go on among some of the faculty during their more or less leisure hours, and more specifically while on the golf course. Dean McDonald then proceeded with his inspiring message about Dartmouth and spiced up part of his talk with some of his dealings with undergrads, particularly with regard to cuts, love, etc. Some of these tales, I am sure, carried some of us back to our own undergraduate days and perhaps some of our own, shall I say, escapades. At the conclusion of his talk, the Dean was most gracious in answering questions from the floor.
Chairman of the Nominating Committee, Al Gottschaldt '18 then presented his slate of officers for the coming year, and all those nominated found themselves steam-rollered into office in record time, before they had time to think or offer any defense. For those of our own members, and for any visitors to Miami, who have had the tenacity to read this far, don't forget the regular monthly meetings the second Tuesday of each month at the Seven Seas Restaurant.
