"Congratulations on your success in getting even as lazy a guy as myself to write!" That is Ed Moody's comment and we were pleased to hear from him. Some of you other prolific (?) letter writers reading this might take note. Ed is an account executive with R. G. E. Ullman and also heads up their publicity department. "We're growing fast and if you know of anyone who needs an aggressive industrial shop, we're it." After three years in the Philadelphia area, Ed and Mary Lou are sold on the location and so have recently moved into a 19th century carriage house on the main line in Villanova. Here, with their two boys, they are happily settling down and if I read between the lines correctly, it would be inappropriate to visit them right now - you might be handed a paint brush as well as a welcoming hand. Also in the Philadelphia environs is BillHousel, assistant vice president of Lionel D. Edie & Co. He wrote of an August vacation spent in Avalon, N. J., after moving the family to Bryn Mawr in early summer.

Out in the land o£ Paul Bunyan is Bill Knoff doing engineering work as an estimator for Paper-Calmenson Co. In his "spare" time, Bill drew up plans for a new home which was recently completed. This suburban Minneapolis residence is conveniently located, says Bill, to northbound highways to facilitate their various hunting and fishing trips. There is a new classmate in your hometown, Bill, with the arrival of Dr. Richard Cardozo and family. Dick will be doing special work at the University Hospital for a short time, expecting to return to Hanover next summer.

Alex Hooker was one of the many traveling Americans who reached the Continent this past summer. Sailing on the S.S. Constitution, from N.Y.C. to Algeciras, Spain, Alex spent three weeks touring the Peninsula on a bus and divided the remaining time between England, France and Italy. Dr. Mel Figley, after four months in Sweden (including side trips to England and Norway), studying and observing radiological practices in various hospitals, was joined by his wife, Margaret, in May for a month's "grand tour" of the continent and the British Isles. Then it was back to Ann Arbor where Mel is an assistant professor at the University of Michigan.

About a year ago, Bill and Alice Lowenthal returned from Chile where they had spent two years while Bill worked as Program Officer under the Technical Assistance Program. Before returning stateside, a second son, Harry, was born followed by a second daughter, Jane, shortly after their arrival in Falls Church, Va. Today, Bill's job is still connected with the Foreign Aid Program but he is now located in Washington, D. C., as a staff assistant in the office of the Director for Liaison for the National Security Council and the Operations Coordinating Board.

After completing the two-year graduate course in hospital administration at Duke Medical Center, Jim Warden accepted the position of Administrator at the Shenandoah Hospital in Roanoke, Va. Here, Jim and Susan with their two daughters settled down in July.

Out in the far West, the latest development for the Montagne family finds John, Phoebe and their two boys very comfortably settled in the beautiful town of Bozeman, Mont. John accepted a position with Montana State College in which he will help to expand their geology department. For the past four years he has served as an instructor at the Colorado School of Mines. Says John: "We are enjoying the mountain country here and looking forward to a permanent (at last) association in this area. We spent the summer as usual in Jackson Hole, Wyo., where I worked for the U.S. Geological Survey on the glacial story in those parts. Life is interesting, stimulating and very pleasurable."

The style of the TV program, Dragnet, seems to have influenced our own California producer who writes, "Matt Rapf —TV producer—The Web, Frontier, Great Gildersleeve." By way of amplification, Matt and Margaret with their three boys live in Los Angeles and as Matt said, he is a producer, having done such work with NBC since 1953' prior to which time he was associated with the motion picture industry.

In the short note department: Dave Sills is Director of the Bureau of Applied Social Research at Columbia University. In October, his book, "The Volunteers: Means and Ends in a National Organization," was published by the Free Press, Glencoe, Ill., as an organizational analysis of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. In September, Dr. Joseph Tobin was appointed as director of psychiatric research in the State Department of Institutions and Agencies, New Jersey. Joe's work will be to develop research in fields of mental illness, integrating the resources of the various mental institutions with the specialized facilities being developed at the Neuro-Psychiatric Institute. Laurence Leavitt '25, Headmaster of Vermont Academy, Saxtons River, Vt., announced in September, the election of Bob Campbell as a trustee. For a number of years, Bob had served as director of public relations and development for the school, resigning a year ago to devote his full time to Campbell Films. "Sheriff" Bill Parmer, in September, received an appointment as assistant to the Superintendent of Schools, Tenafly, N. J. Bill has been associated with the school system since 1947 and among other activities has coached a few successful baseball teams in Tenafly.

Of closing interest, this is the last for 1957, so to each and every one of you and your families, A MERRY CHRISTMAS and A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
