As such pleasant times have a way of doing, our sojourn on Bustins Island in Casco Bay came to an end September. 7. Caught and somewhat drenched in a hard shower as we were leaving the boat at South Freeport, Mildred and I were fortunate in having a chance to get dry in the cozy, warm home of John White '45 and his wife in that small village. There we met, according to plan, his mother, Hilda, and had a chance to see a little of the four White youngsters, grandchildren of Ernest White. We spent the night with Hilda at Falmouth Foreside; "Sy" was on a business trip to California.

Recently I had pleasant chats with two of our men, Carl Getchell and Frank Beckley. As it happens, they live almost directly opposite each other on a quiet, beautiful street in Montclair. Both appear to enjoy their retirement in this attractive town. They seem in good health, except that Frank finds walking difficult.

Because last month's '05 column was fairly full of reunion news, a few items were left to appear here.

A delegate to the biennial meeting of the General Council of Congregational Christian Churches last June, Royal Parkinson found himself seated beside Percy Ladd. As they had not seen each other since graduation, we may well believe they had much to discuss. Percy does occasional preaching and keeps occupied with a variety of interests. Royal, in spite of ill health, has still been able to keep on with his work as business consultant.

Shirley Cunningham, long happily settled in New Mexico, spent a few days in Red River where his wife caught eight trout. He doesn't say whether he let her do all the fishing or just didn't have any luck himself.

"Elsie" Grover's summer camp on Sportsman Pond in Athol, reported a "show place," was gutted by fire late in May. Tough luck, Elsie.

At a meeting of the Mystic Valley Dartmouth Club in May, Roger Brown says he was the oldest person present. Gene Musgrove still enjoys teaching English at Upsala College but has a reduced schedule.

John Furfey with Edith, his wife, left on Sept. 2 to live with their son in Frankfurt, Germany. John Jr. '44 is an officer in the United States Army.

On May 19 Mary, widow of our Bob Merriam, died in Scarsdale, N. Y. For a number of years she had carried on a gift shop called The White Elephant in White Plains.

A leading light in the legal profession himself, Jim Mulally is endowed with a distinguished family. His youngest son, Judd '42 also practices law in St. Paul, while Charles, the eldest, is a captain of police and the second, Edward, is a judge. With 17 grandchildren (and more to come) Jim merits the Biblical commendation, "Blessed is the man whose quiver is full."
