If you were asked to loan a worthy Dartmouth student $10.00 a year to help keep him in college, you wouldn't hesitate a moment. Well, you can do just that through the Dartmouth Educational Ass'n, a wonderful organization of Dartmouth men, but much too little known. The dues are $10.00 a year and the money goes into a revolving fund for loaning as above and when repaid - as most are - goes back in for reloaning. In this way as much as $40,000 has been loaned in a single year.
Of the 1100 members, our class has only 9, while some contemporary classes have as many as 50. We just haven't known about it, but we do know now. It's a big idea in the making and could some day revolutionize the method of helping needy boys to stay in college. Interested? For further information write to Chandler H. Foster, clerk, 1 Court St., Boston.
Our record attendance at our 50th would have been increased at least by two as letters indicate. Crosby Hoar and Don Comstock had fully intended to be there but were prevented by hospitalization of self or wife respectively. We're sorry for them and for the rest of us.
Most of us knew Mike (Leon) Farley '09. It seems that he recently attained the age of 75 in recognition of which Virginia staged a splendid cocktail party in his honor. Dartmouth men and wives in the vicinity present were too numerous to mention and the spirit was there as well as the spirits. 'OB congratulations, Mike.
Ex President Hopkins will be 81 on November 6, a well-deserved attainment. It doesn't seem possible that everyone else should be getting older except ourselves. But Hoppie isn't old.
The week-end of the Holy Cross game I had a wonderful visit with Larry and HelenTreadway in Williamstown and incidentally saw one of the most beautiful sections of our country. We went up to the game and good fortune seated us right next to Syd Ruggles and his grandson. Everything but the score was delightful. Larry had just received a note from Charlie Walker who with Louise was enjoying a stay at the Bethel Inn, Bethel, Me. If you don't know that place, better get acquainted. It is completely out of a troubled world.
At the , pre-game celebration before the Harvard game at the University Club, five of the '08 stalwarts helped to raise the welkin. They were Art Soule, Gene Jordan, Ben Knox, Percy Gleason and Pete McCarty.
