A Wah Hoo Wall for Bob Joslin. His son, Mike, born October 22, 1941, entered Dartmouth as a freshman this fall all the way from Dallas, Texas. We believe that he is the first son of 1940 to do so. We wish him all the best and hope that he is the forerunner of an ever-growing throng.
Now that we have that great piece of news off our chest, we wish to report that we enjoyed a highly successful and pleasant time in Hanover over the weekend of the Brown game. The class meeting Saturday morning in Sanborn House was well attended, the picnic before the game great fun, the game mediocre, and the party at Bob MacMillan's after the game perfect. Bob and Crosbie invited all '40's in Hanover at the time to join them and a goodly crowd appeared. You will receive a more detailed account of this weekend in a subsequent mailing. Sufficeth to say that the first Ivy League game weekend in Hanover is rapidly growing into an annual class get-together and a most pleasant between-reunion meeting ground. Plan on it next year.
The first news from Dr. Lew Lambert since his departure from Hanover, has reached us from California. A letter came via DonRainie who received it with Lew's class dues. Any of you who are in arrears might send a note to Don with your dues. It's a sure way to get your name in print. But back to Lew. All is serene in Sacramento, Calif., with a successful medical practice and the family adapting itself to their new surroundings.
Hal Hillman is still roaming the earth for good old General Motors. After a long time in Australia and a shorter period with the international division in New York, he is in Honolulu where he has been located for a year.
Dartmouth enrollment work in Central New York is being headed for the third year by Powell Holbein of Syracuse. In addition, he has just been elected to the Board of Education, without opposition he says. He has three children, a boy, twelve; girl, ten; and boy, three.
Despite the fact that one Forty has a son at Dartmouth and that many others are facing the prospect, others in the Class keep producing. Fred Fuld announces that their third son, Jonathan, was born on April 27. Fred is a C.P.A. in San Pedro, Calif. Oscarand Ruth Acer had their third daughter in June and Dr. Art and Peg French finally added a daughter to the family last November after having had five boys. Oscar is in the insurance business in Buffalo while Art is an associate professor of internal medicine at the University of Michigan where his subject is gastroenterology. He has occasionally seen Dr. Dana Darnley, who is in the neurology section of the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Ron and Hazel Woodbury are trying to keep up with five children while he serves as president of the D. S. Woodbury Co. of Boston, engaged in the trucking and warehousing business. He has seen Charley Tuck umpiring Little League games, Alan Rosenthal busy in his frozen fish business, and Frank Whaland selling insurance.
Eastman Kodak will have a twenty-year veteran of service in Kim Flint next spring. He is senior purchasing engineer at Texas Eastman Co. in Long View, Texas. Kim has two children, Kim III graduating from high school next June and Sally in the seventh grade.
There seem to be more doctors in our class than in any other profession. Dr. Bill Martin reports that he would have made the Brown game weekend in Hanover but for medical service at the Glen Cove (N. Y.) Hospital. He states that Dr. Bob Unangst is a highly successful surgeon in nearby Huntington, Long Island.
We frequently receive press clippings telling us of Rev. Larry Durgin's outstanding service in the Congregational Church. He is minister of the largest Congregational church in Rhode Island in Providence, a trustee of Andover Newton Theological Seminary, a member of the Governor's Commission on Correctional Services in Rhode Island, and a member of the National Committee of the Christian High Education Fund Campaign of the Congregational Christian Churches.
The wonderful Yale game was well attended by classmates. Between the pouring rain, trying to keep dry, and the intense excitement, it was impossible to record all the names, or even a part. We did, however, make careful note of seeing Jack and Lois Moody who spent the weekend with us and who were proceeding to California on a combination business and pleasure trip. They planned to see Scotty Rogers, Lew Lambert, Jack Rourke, Tom Braden and many others. More of that next month when we get the news.
