The death of Joe Coburn in Lynn, Mass., on December 24, 1958, was reported in the Boston Herald. "Cobe" had been in poor health for several years and was confined in the Veterans' Hospital in Bedford, Mass., for an extended period. It was a severe blow to him that he was unable to be present at '07's 50th reunion. Your secretary visited him shortly after the reunion and found him in an oxygen tent obviously very ill, but keenly interested in a report of the class gathering. After an extended illness, Harry Storrs' wife died in Hanover shortly before Christmas. His many friends and classmates will sympathize with Harry and his sons.
Waldo Pickett suffered a stroke in early November. He was hospitalized in the Ports-mouth, N. H., Hospital for a little more than two weeks. Mrs. Pickett writes that he is making progress, though, from his point of view, slow progress. She is confident that he will recover normal use of his affected limbs, in time. Classmate Julius Dutton was confined in the same hospital at the same time, for surgery. Sam Hale has also been in touch with Mrs. Pickett during Waldo's illness. Their address is Newcastle, N. H.
A note to Walter Nesmith, congratulating him on being the senior member of '07 in age, and inquiring about a possible relationship to a George W. Nesmith, of the Class of 1820, has brought an interesting reply. George W. is Walter's ancestor, but only one of several. A George B. was a member of 1854, a Frank Nesmith Parsons was a member of the Class of 1874, and a Chief Justice of New Hampshire; Edward was a '79 man; and our classmate is the latest representative of an illustrious Dartmouth family. The ancestor who is responsible for this interesting record was James Nesmith, who moved from Ireland to Londonderry, N. H., presumably early in the 18th century. (It might be interesting to know how many fathers of '07 sons were in college with Walter's father, Edward. - Mine was a graduate in '81.— H. R. L.)
The time has come to disclose the identity of the three classmates pictured in the November ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Few submitted their views, and none made a correct answer - until finally, a classmate reported that he had a copy of the photograph in his Memo book, was in the picture himself, and could positively identify the other two in spite of the fifty-plus years elapsed since the snapshot was taken. Leon Sprague writes: "I guess I am the only one who would know for I was there. George Dalrymple took the shot; L. A. Sprague, Sid George, and Deke Leighton looking over the sign." Leon wins in a walk. He is not spending the winter in Florida this year, because his wife is not well.
Sid George, recently a resident of Rye Beach, N. H., has reported a new address, perhaps temporary: Route A, Box 801, Tucson, Ariz.
Jim O'Neill is still very much on the go. He has had a six weeks' lecture trip to the West Coast this autumn. For a young man who has just enjoyed his 77th birthday - more power to him!
Dick and Lucy Lane are leaving Boston early in January and do not plan to return home until mid-April. During Dick's absence George Grebenstein has agreed to take over the secretarial duties, and will welcome and appreciate news about classmates from any and all sources.
