With the north wind howling around my house and the temperature hovering around zero, again my memories of the New Hampshire plains are brought sharply to the fore. It is a good time to light a fire in the hearth and tell our wives and children about those winters up in Hanover, especially 1947-48, in case you have forgotten.

During the holidays Barb and I visited in Rochester, N. Y. We enjoyed an evening spent with Dick Weaver, who drove over from Buffalo to see us. Dick is still a carefree bachelor hitting all the good ski areas between here and the West coast. He also spends some time selling lumber for the A. H. Weaver Lumber Co. and acting as sales agent for a new vinyl coated flexible wooden wall covering called "Furnaflex." The product has an aluminum backing and its possible applications are diverse.

Another salesman in the class is Jack Clemence. "Since their departure from Wigwam about 10 years ago the Clemence family has been residing in Short Hills, N. J., and, I might add, has grown considerably. Jack and Ruth's roster now numbers five, as follows: Kathy, ten and one half; Christine, nine; Karen, five; Jack Jr., two and one half; and Carol, one. Jack works for Hankins Container Corp., a division of Flintkote, selling corrugated shipping containers. Although they see quite a few Dartmouth men, Jack hasn't found too many '48's nearby.

Jay Rutledge called me recently while on a visit to New York. Jay keeps very busy in the investment business in Oakland, Calif. During the summer, he reports seeing quite a bit of Jerry Wensinger. Jerry was at the University of California at Berkeley working on his doctorate degree. He is now on a year's leave of absence from his teaching position at Wesleyan while completing this work at the University of Michigan.

Ken Saunders is continuing to advance with the Continental Casualty Company in Chicago where he has worked since graduation. Recently he was given the responsibility of setting up the new merchandising and promotional unit in the accident and health department. Ken and his family live in Mt. Prospect, Ill.

A few months ago the Brockton, Mass., newspaper carried a picture of Bob Sebilian having his new rank insignia pinned on by his wife. Bob was promoted to major in the Marine Corps and is stationed at the Marine Corps recruit depot at San Diego, Calif. He is presently battalion training officer for headquarters.

It appears as if Rog Tenney likes to sell those things that give one pleasure in life. He has recently switched from selling imported sports cars in his hometown of Rockford, Ill., to selling and constructing swimming pools and is manager of this newly formed division of the Glenview Construction Co. in Glenview, Ill. Rog, his wife and two children will move to Glenview so that Rog can be closer to the Chicago area.

Another '48 living in Short Hills, N. J., is Wendell Griffith, with his wife, Barbara, and daughters Barbara, nine and Jody, six and a half. Wendell is now the chief industrial engineer for Colgate Palmolive in charge of cost control. I certainly hope he's found a little time to keep up his skiing.

It was certainly nice to receive a note recently from Bill Wright. Bill for the past three and one half years has been principal of the Athol, Mass., high school. He has now been promoted to Superintendent of Schools for the Athol School District and AtholRoyalton Regional District succeeding Harold Moody '28. Bill, his wife and three daughters live in Athol. Keep up the good work, Bill.

In the field of athletics Dave Kurr certainly hasn't lost his touch or stamina. Dave played number one on the Philadelphia B team in the tri-city squash racquets matches between Boston, Philadelphia, and New York for the Lockett Cup and won both his matches. Incidentally, Dave defeated Bill Foster '52, who was number one on the New York team. When not playing squash. Dave works for Reynolds Metals Corp.
