Cutest note of the month comes from Bunny (Mrs. Donald W.) Smith, bride of last June, who writes" ... my husband has kindly commissioned me to be a courier of glad tidings re himself and his latest doings." Besides the wedding, news of the Smiths includes the award of the 01' M.D. to Don at Stanford last June, and current internship at Columbia-Presbyterian in New York. "Don loves his work, but we count it lucky if he grabs two hours' sleep a night. He's seldom home and I'm only aware that I'm married because there's a can of shaving cream in the cabinet and I know I don't use it."
A '54 alumna of the U. of Vermont, Bunny's already a veteran of clashes with the clan Smith (Dartmouth men all) concerning whether the green in their Bergenfield, N. J., apartment should be Dartmouth hue or the Vermont variety. And in closing, " ... excuse miserable typing ... but then I went to Vermont and the only thing I learned was to take in the haying... ayeh
Just to confuse the issue, another of the '51 Don Smiths (Donald S. II — the Hanover Smith) writes to say that he'll be leaving the Army's medical administrative program after nearly three years in Washington. On April 1, Don heads for Durham, N. C., to take up residence as administrative assistant at Luke Hospital and instructor in hospital administration in Duke University, with responsibility for planning a major overhaul in the teaching program.
A nice "Washington Post" and "Times Herald" spread on the Big Brother program featured Mike Monroney in picture and story as he treated his eleven-year-old "little brother" to hockey games, tours of Capitol Hill and such spots. Besides recounting the worthwhile efforts of the Big Brothers in giving fatherless boys some needed companionship, the story mentions that Mike is currently administrative assistant to Rep. John Brademas (D-Ind.).
We've heard lots of '51s say they'd like an excuse to go live in Hanover again, and DonHerdeg has found one. Don's taken a leave of absence from his engineering position with G.E. in Syracuse, and is headed back to Thayer School for graduate work. With him go Esther and nine-month-old son Paul.
Another change in positions concerns Cal Groves, who's left his sales representative post with American Airlines to become part owner of Colonial Travel Service in the Boston area.
There will be wedding bells sometime this month for Shirley Reese and Hank Sanders. From Hampton, Va., Shirley went to Mary Washington College and the University of Virginia. Congratulations!
