"Everything Is Up To Date In Kansas City" and we aim to bring it up to date right now for all the rest of us. First order of business is to extend sincere greetings to each and all as we resume the '53 corner!
RED LETTER DAY - Chairman Howie Clery and your Executive Committee announce the traditional '53 pow-wow will be in full gear at the Hotel Continental, Cambridge, immediately following the Harvard-Dartmouth football game, Saturday, Oct. 22. Mark the day now and come one and all to this event which is a grand place to bump into all the gang you want to see.
Some would offer a plaque, some would send congratulatory wires, but I think Ted Spiegel and each of his class agents will understand when we just say "Thanks — for another tremendous job accomplished on this year's Alumni Fund Drive." Through their organization efforts and the class's generous and timely contributions, the Class of 1953 once again won the Green Derby competition, outpacing six other classes, and at the same time gave tangible evidence of its deep concern for perpetuating all that is Dartmouth.
WEDDING NEWS — and activity this summer was high as Tom Bloomer and Arlene Koelbel were married in Arlene's home towjj of Wellesley, Mass., on June 26. The accompanying photograph shows that Jack Crisp,Dave Florence, Bob Callender, John Corcoran, Fred Carleton, Jim West, Jack Thim,Bob Henderson, Ed Kidd '54, and yours truly were on hand. The newlyweds are living in Washington, D. C.
Independence Day and Co-Dependence Day were celebrated together this year as RayAlexander and Rosalie David were married on July 4 in Newark, N. J. Rosalie is a graduate of Brandeis University and also attended Newark College of Rutgers University. Ray is now assistant director of Beth Israel Hospital, New York. July was also the wedding month for David Katz and Ruth Cohen of Springfield, Mass. Ruth was graduated from American International College and has been a teacher in Springfield, and David is director of merchandising for the Food Marts, Inc.
Carleton Walker took Loretta Helen Berry of Norwich, Conn., as his bride this summer. Loretta graduated from Norwich Free Academy and Connecticut College and did graduate work at Middlebury Language School and the University of Mexico. She has been teaching Spanish and English in Waterford, Conn., while Carleton's work is with the Navy Underwater Sound Lab in New London, Conn. Before leaving his residency in surgery at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, and accepting the position of associate surgeon at the International Grenfell Association Hospital in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, Mayo Johnson, M.D., stepped to the marriage altar with Julie Anne Cheronis in Warren, Pa. Julie is an alumna of the University of Rochester.
Greenwich, Conn., was the site this summer of John Taylor's marriage to Harriet Whiteley Scott. Harriet holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Columbia.
And there is no doubt that the big day this summer for Dave Cost and Margaret Louise (Peggy) Pierson was July 9 when they were married. Giving them full support were ushers Ted Spiegel, Tom Blomquist, and Charlie Buchanan and guest Bill Vitalis. Word has it that Dave located a tremendous hill apartment in San Francisco overlooking the Bay.
Much happiness to one and all who took the big step this summer and a warm welcome to the Dartmouth group, gals, from us all!
ALL SET — here's the engagement list: Charlie Talamo to Deborah Hearst of Swampscott, Mass.; Dick Buell to Helen Elizabeth Tolleson of Phoenix, Arizona; EdBoody and Beverley C. Mountain of New York; Chase Colborn and Ann Sodini of Pasadena, Calif.; and Newsletter Co-Editor Bob Malin has announced a fall wedding to Gail Lassiter of Winston-Salem, N. C. Bob has just joined the investment brokerage firm of Blyth & Co. in New York.
FOR THE RECORD - Ben and AliceDew are proud parents o£ a second girl, Domenica Ann. The Scrib Fauvers were presented their first child, a boy, Scribner King Fauver, last September, and more recently Scrib has joined his father and uncle in the law firm of Fauver & Fauver in Elyria, Ohio. A new model arrival was delivered March 15 to the John Van Huycks, Janet Lynn, 10 lbs. on the button. Way down South in Arkansas, a family is really growing by the name of Bender. Alice and John added #5 to their household - a boy - Robert Martin - making the score four boys and one girl. John states that he was quite elated recently to see Russ Henry who was on a Southern buying trip for J. C. Penney. New for Boband Carol Henderson — a second child, John Traylor Henderson, born Aug. 23, and also a new address: 4 Lieb Place, Tuckahoe, New York. Bob and Fred Carleton have just recently joined Minneapolis-Honeywell's Data-matic Division. Bob is in New York and Fred in San Francisco.
I'm looking forward to hearing from many of you at my new address in Chicago. X was transferred here by Gillette in May.
