The program for the Holy Cross game in Hanover was dedicated to our late famous classmate, Bill Cunnmgham, and was another splendid tribute to Bill's memory. Quoting in part from an article in the program written by Dusossoit Duke '18.

In these (football) years, Bill built friendships which were to last all his life. He also developed a devotion to Dartmouth which was loyal, steadfast and deep rooted. Yet when he went on to write his famous column first in the Boston Post and later in the Herald, it soon became apparent - and surprising to none who knew the depth of his many-faceted character - that Dartmouth and its doings would enjoy no special immunity from his penetrating and sometimes shattering comment. He had no sacred cows - not even Green ones.

Next came the Harvard game and your Secretary had the pleasure of attending after some years' absence, and stayed with the ever hospitable Hayes. At the night before the game get-together at the University Club in Soston, or at the game, which was a tough one to lose, were Alice Earle and Rock, Bob Proctor, John Chipman, Charlotte and Chuck Eaton, the aforementioned Flemings and McCrillises, Toni and Casey Bevan, Harriet and Lou Munro, Gladys Nichols, widow of Hal, Emily and Chet Gale, all the way from Buffalo, Bea and Spider Martin, Harriet and Ray Hinds, Helen Bird, widow of Phil, Anne and Bob Lewis, and Norma and Dan Featherston, our sterling Smoke Signal editor. Almost forgot Peg and Frank Holmes, the owners of the Woodstock Inn who make our annual stay there so pleasant.

Ray Adams has a great knack of extracting money from '19ers and making them like it. This is due in part to the little notes he writes on the annual bills. Horace Hitchcock writes Ray most cordially, quoting,

I am glad to transmit herewith my check for a subscription to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE and the Memorial Book Fund. In response to the little postscript inquiry as to my welfare: I have been well but not leading any lotus eater's life. I had to spend the month of July in Miami participating in the trial of a case brought against the American Tobacco Company by the widow of a deceased smoker of Lucky Strike cigarettes who claimed that her husband's death was caused by smoking and that the defendant was responsible. The jury concluded that the defendant was not responsible and gave a verdict for the defendant. I learned from my experience that Florida has no appeal to me as a summer resort.

Horace is a partner in Chadbourne, Parke, Whiteside and Wolff, prominent attorneys of 25 Broadway, New York City. Also to Ray from Moe Freedberg of Marblehead, Mass., "I am sorry that I had to miss the Woodstock outing this year. In the first place, I did not feel up to snuff and in the second place I am planning to leave for a semi-retirement status to Florida the early part of November. 1 don't know just where we will be in Florida, but just as soon as I can, I will let you know. Remember me to all '19ers."

J. Harold Stacey, prominent resident of Windsor, Vt., has been named deputy for Vermont of the 33rd degree Masons. Further on Jane and San Treat, "Jane is just not up to the trip (Woodstock). I had hoped that she could make it and you know how much I would liked to have been with you all. She has improved greatly over her condition for the past two years, but the trip was a little too long for her." Your Secretary had hoped that the Alex Hendersons would make it, but, via the grapevine from Oyster Harbors, Alex had to go to Florida so no go. JimJewett reports to Ray, - "It is good to hear from you at least once a year. Sorry I have no news of interest to, report. Am still at the same old job with the Traveler's Insurance Company - the only one I have had since graduation! Too long, I guess."

Norris Hodgkins of Southern Pines, N. C., notes to the Secretary, - "Many thanks for the 1919 birthday card which arrived precisely on my 62nd. (See's note, - this is practically a miracle, with a lot of traveling long delayed). If you come to the Southland, we would be delighted to have you stop off and see us, and have some peaches and melons and grits, and mountain dew!! Or does the Hanover address mean that, like so many '19ers, you have retired?"

Recent address changes include Everett W. Edwards, Avenue, New York 1, N. Y.; Tracy Kohl, P.O. Box 542, Sedona, Ariz.; Albion C. Streeter, 17 Main Street, Berlin, N. H., and William D. Washburn, Conover, Wis.

Bin Hoard, honored graduate of the University of Wisconsin, but still a loyal Dartmouth man and '19er writes, "Thanks for sending me the dues notice for 1960-61. I am enclosing my check for $7.00 to cover same. I always look' forward to the arrival of the 'Smoke Signal,' the DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE and everything else that may contain bits of information concerning members of 1919 whom I do not see very often." Bill Alderman, a transplanted Yankee to Jacksonville, Fla., writes, "Donna changed her mind and went out to sea fifty miles south of Jax but until then she was headed right for us and was a mean old gal. Sure miss seeing the gang at reunions and football weekends but Florida living and climate is sure great!!"

It is about time to wish all of you '19ers, male and female, a most Happy Christmas and a good 1961 and keep smiling and healthy.
