On September 22 the 1923 men in the Springfield area followed their custom of long standing with a get-together in observance of our matriculation in 1919. A banquet was held at the Longmeadow Country Club. Babe Miner says this has become such a habit with the men in his area that all he has to do is to set the date, phone them, and they are there. The rundown of those present is as follows: Gus Ryan, Hal McKenna,Herb Behan, Den Pope, Len Traesdell,George Weston, Bill Gates, George Ferguson,Howard Brown, and Babe Miner.
23's most eligible bachelor continues to add to his glamour. Louis E. Grover Jr., vice president of Citizens Savings Bank and Citizens Trust Company of Providence, has been appointed vice president of the American Bankers Association for Rhode Island. Louis will maintain liaison between the national association and individual banks in Rhode Island and will be responsible for membership activities.
Word came through 1923's South American pipe line of the marriage of one RoyBrown to a Mrs. Elizabeth Meyer Losch, on June 27, in New Rochelle, N. Y. Roy was promptly prodded for news items concerning this happy event. Elizabeth, it seems, was a friend of Maddy's for over forty years and attended grammar school with Roy. Like Maddy she attended the 1923 winter carnival so she is no stranger to Hanover.
One of our vice presidents, Art Little, ran into the newlyweds on 42nd Street in New York. Roy says he just cannot keep clear of that fellow. The Leroy Taylor Browns returned to Venezuela by way of Caracas and Santiago, Chile and are now at home at Tinaquillo, Cojedes, Venezuela. Roy reports Jack is in his second year at Colgate, where he earned his numerals last year in basketball and track, as a high jumper. On August 7 Jigger's wife had her first child, Pamela Anne.
Dick Kershaw from his many years of experience as 1933 secretary knows how important news is to a secretary. His letters, on The American Home stationery, are always a welcome sight. He writes briefly of himself and Dolly. "Dolly had a return of her strep infection at the end of the last half of our vacation up-country. Penicillin injections may have hit her sciatic nerve, as she has been rather lamed up since Labor Day. I had another 'coronary incident' last December; a pulled Achilles tendon in the left ankle, and a slight operation on the right eyelid. So much for the Kershaw grief to date." Dolly gave Dick a new Kodak Retina III for color slides for his birthday.
Win and Margie Weser spent the fourth of July weekend with the Kershaws at Old Lyme as usual. Win has been with the Magnus Metals Division of National Lead in Albany since the war. They are moving that plant to Fremont, Neb., but Win expects to stay on with the Nuclear Division which will occupy the Albany plant.
Francis (Nix) Merriam had a lung removed early last summer and has been back in Grace Hospital in New Haven for further treatment. Dick writes that this upset was slight and that he is now recovering nicely. Nix has been with McCall Corporation in New York City for 28 years. He graduated from B.U. after two years with us in Hanover. He recalls with appreciation the contribution to his stay in Hanover made by Percy Marks, the English professor. The Merriams live in Westport, Conn.
