The spring thaw is upon us; the warm winds are wafting down Wall Street; the market is coming out from under the winter freeze; and you no longer get blown off the platform while waiting for the morning train. All this must mean only a few more snow storms and rainy nights before the summer is here again. I hope the summer will be a good one for all of you - lots of sun and all.
This was a wonderful month for letters so let me give something a little more lively than the regular diet of News clippings. Bob Wilson is working for 8.8.D. and O. on "Mad. Ave." and states he is recuperating from the wedding of Chris Weber and Miss Joan Cavanaugh in Philadelphia. They are going to take a honeymoon trip to San Francisco for a few weeks and then are returning to live in Merchantville, N. J. Chris is working with Federal Oil Distributors in Camden. Harry Weaver was also ushering at the wedding. Harry and his wife, Mary, are the parents of James Weaver, a bouncing yearling, who is destined to be a Dartmouth lad of the 'Bos. Harry is selling industrial chemicals in Philadelphia. Jack Upham since his graduation has toiled in the vineyards of Armstrong Cork and Sales Affiliates. Bob, the producer of this wealth of material, has since been forced to pack up his grey flannel equipment and move to San Francisco where B.B.D. and O. has set up shop on the "Mad. Ave." of the West.
Ed Matthews took some of his precious free time to drop a line stating that he feels the Marine Corps is definitely harder than the Army. He has to get up at 5:00 A.M. and the members of the platoon are not supposed to speak to one another during any time but the one hour of free time during the week. Ah, sweet memories. Tony Bodine and his wife Tiff are living in New Jersey on a farm named "Plumb Broke." I can really understand the name because they just returned from skiing in France over the holidays. At home on the farm the Bodine menagerie consists of a year-old baby boy, "Hitch," five dogs (two of which are pups, two hunting dogs and one free loader), one cat, and two horses.
Randy and Jinny Aires are back at the academic pace at the University of Michigan Law School - is nice but not as pleasant as the Navy life. There is a new heir to the Aires family in John R. Aires who arrived on January 20. Boys are really the fashion now with the Queen in England, the Princess' boy in Japan, and Bardot's baby boy in France. The Aires are in good company. Tony Dingman, who is teaching at Worcester Academy (Mass.), has been directing the plays given at the Academy, the most recent of which is the "Caine Mutiny Court Martial."
In the engagement column Pete Barnes and Miss Lorna R. Hansen are at the head this month. Pete is working on the floor of the Stock Exchange. He and Lorna, who graduated from Bennett College, plan to be married in June. Bob Smith and Miss Emily Lehman have announced their engagement. Bob is in his third year of Harvard Law School while Emily will graduate from Smith this June. Miss Ethel Grumman will become Mrs. Wallace Ackley. Ethel graduated from Mt. Holyoke and has her Master's from B.U. in social work. Bob Crumrine and Miss Patricia England have announced their engagement. Pat is a junior at Northwestern while Bob is in his second year of Medical School at the University of Rochester. John Blades and Miss Andrena Bear have also announced their engagement. "Andy" (I hope that is your short name - if it isn't it is a nice one to consider) graduated from Smith and is now on the editorial staff of "The New Yorker."
The tycoon of the month is Clyde Brownstone. Clyde has been elected the treasurer and a director of Associated Factors Corporation. Clyde will head the newly formed Small Business Department, which provides capital for concerns doing an annual volume of up to $500,000. Before this Clyde was in the Army and with Hudson Paper and Sterling Bank and Trust Company.
Congratulations to you all for engagements, heirs, and whopping business successes.
Best, Skip
