During the summer Dana Whipple suffered a slight stroke which affected his left side, arm, and leg. And who told me? None other than Dana himself who in firm and legible penmanship (better than the see's) not only wrote of his affliction but in a good newsy letter told of his retirement as a pharmacist and also of his cheery acceptance of the situation and the days ahead. A grand attitude which can be an inspiration to each of us. Don't forget Dana's new address, 22 Bonmar Circle, Auburndale 66, Mass.
Am hard put for news. Guess other secretaries of our period are in the same boat. In October MAGAZINE found nothing from 1901 and 1902. Secretary for 1906 admits having written to more than twenty classmates for news and no replies. Don't think he was bragging. Never have drawn that number of blanks from this class; mighty near it, though. Please set a watch that it don't happen. Did see listed in Alumni Articles several by Billy Maclennan on Early California which recently appeared in "The Carmel, Calif., Pine Cone."
Perhaps we may be a bit off on class items for the "sec" but when it comes to loosening up the purse strings must let out a barrel of "pothole eskers" for the bully support given Harold Hess on his first effort as Class Agent when we find 1903 reported for 1961 Alumni Fund as "in first place among all classes in percent dollar objective; dollar total, second largest in class history; and twentieth in participation (a new class record)." Response just what we might expect to one who has been such a faithful Class Treasurer these many years.
Just dawned on the "sec" that this is the issue which calls for a bit of Christmas. It has been a good year personally for which we can reverently give thanks. We hope too that time has been good to you although at eighty plus we are skating on pretty thin ice. It has been grand to have been so closely associated with you all, a privilege which you should have occasion to enjoy. You would treasure it. There are worries but nothing to outbalance the opportunity of being associated with a grand bunch like yourselves. Merry Christmas to you all from the Wadhams and Happy Days ahead.
